Job Title: Research Nurse
Location: Rustenburg, North West, South Africa

Job Summary:
The Research Nurse performs clinical procedures and administers processes essential to continually improving standards of patient care according to professional protocol.

Technical Work Responsibilities
Provide Clinical tasks
Research-related tasks
Administrative duties
Liaison with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers
Human Capital Supervision
Compile clinical data and enter it into a database
Review and assess data collected
Collaborate with investigators and statistical consultants
Screen and recruit subjects for clinical studies

Duties:
Liaise with all Internal Stakeholders and External Stakeholders and Suppliers when necessary towards the achievement of organizational and departmental goals
Provide Clinical Services
Conduct HCT testing indoors and outdoors (Mobile, gazebo) on a daily basis
Obtain medical history
Physical examination of participants, including pelvic, genital and rectal examinations
Drawing of blood and other Specimens
Monitor vital signs
Syndrome management of conditions
Dispensing of medication
Assessing the results and refer participant for further treatment where necessary
Issue ARV medication
Monitor ARV RX adherence and educate on lifestyle modifications
Manage Participants on a regular basis to monitor side effects
Referral of participants for further investigations including x-rays, sonars etc.
Provide a Counselling Services
Conduct pre-and post-counselling service to each participant
Provide educational assistance and advise
Participant management
Recruitment and screening of volunteers and potential study participants from target populations
Administer screening questionnaire
Obtain and accurately document informed consent from volunteers
Follow-up on participants, explaining and answering questions about the research to potential volunteers and stakeholders in accordance with the protocol and SOPs
Enrolling participants according to SOPs and protocol
Complete case report and data collection forms
Perform daily quality checks and data counselling
Continuous monitoring of trail participants to facilitate timeous reports on safety.
Provide and communicate qualitative and quantitative feedback (reports) on recruitment strategies
Conducting of research studies by:
Recruitment and screening of volunteers and potential study participants from target populations
Administer screening questionnaire
Obtain and accurately document informed consent from volunteers
Follow-up on participants, explaining and answering questions about the research to potential volunteers and stakeholders in accordance with the protocol and SOPs
Enrolling participants according to SOPs and protocol
Complete case report and data collection forms
Perform daily quality checks and data counselling
Continuous monitoring of trail participants to facilitate timeous reports on safety.
Provide and communicate qualitative and quantitative feedback (reports) on recruitment strategies.
Manage all applicable documentation, consent forms and data collection forms are completed according to study protocol
Administer data collection instruments as required, including risk assessment questionnaires
Complete, compile and submit study case report forms (CRF’s) and source documents timeously
Oversee all records on participants are completed and filed accurately with strict adherence to documentation handling procedures
Manage procurement, stock control and disposal of clinical supplies in compliance with regulatory standards
Maintain accurate study logs related to biological specimens and proper stock keeping of clinic supplies
Respond timeously to data queries from the QA and Data Management teams
Supervision of subordinates (administrative clerks, Research assistants and Runners) by providing guidance

Requirements:
Education:
Relevant Bachelor’s Degree
Registration with South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse
Advanced diploma in Primary Health Care
HIV/AIDS certificate
Couple Counselling Certificate
Valid GCP certificate
Dispensing License

Experience:
At least 3 years’ experience in PHC, HIV/Aids, TB, PMTCT and STI
6 months’ experience in a managerial position
2 months’ experience in MS Office package
Experience in Contraceptive counselling
Experience in STI syndrome management
Experience in Clinical Research (preferred)
Experience in Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) provision (preferred)

Requirements:
Own car
Valid Driver’s license

Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of Legislation
Ability to work under pressure
Provider initiated counselling
Good phlebotomy and pelvic examination skills
Study protocol
Research methodology
Intermediate computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics etc
