The Children’s Hospital Trust is an independent nonprofit organisation established in 1994 to raise funds to support projects and programmes to help advance child healthcare through the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital the first stand-alone tertiary hospital exclusively for children in sub-Saharan Africa. The Children’s Hospital Trust has raised more than R800million over the last 24 years.

Job Title: Head of Programmes
Job Location: Cape Town
Report to: CEO

The purpose of the position is to develop and implement the Trust strategy for child health programmes, support, monitor, and report on all current Children Hospital Trust-funded programmes as well as identify new prospective programmes for the children’s Hospital Trust to support. Working in close collaboration with key Hospital staff, child health experts, Programme Manager, the provincial Department of Health, the University of Cape Town Faculty of Health and the UK Children’s Hospital Trust. The position will form part of the management team and work closely with the Fundraising Department.


  • A Masters in Public Health or other postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of five years’ relevant experience in project/programme management
  • Exposure to and understanding of the (Child) health sector in South Africa
  • Experience in report writing
  • Budgeting, research and analytical skills
  • Strong strategic skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships
  • Communication skills
