Job Title: PHD Student
Location:  Head Office (Knowledge Translation Unit); Observatory
Employment Type: One Year Fixed Term Contract

The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation requires applications for a PHD Student.  The successful appointee will be based within the Knowledge Translation Unit (however, some remote working will be required depending on COVID-19 level). The successful candidate would be appointed within the Knowledge Translation Unit and would be primarily be required to work on a funded study focused on strengthening adolescent healthcare in primary health care and schools, of which their PhD should be the focus.

Requirements:

  • Master’s in health-related field
  • In the process of registering as a Doctoral student for 2021
  • Working experience in qualitative and quantitative research
  • Computer literacy (Proficiency in MS Excel and /or MS Access, and other relevant statistical analysis software (STATA); as well as NVIVO or ATLAS TI)
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • A mature and responsible attitude towards work, with the ability to take ownership of projects
  • Stakeholder management
  • Ability to work within a team and individually
  • Able to take projects from concept to completion
  • Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and high standards
  • Able to self-manage

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with stakeholders as required in preparation for conducting research projects
  • Prepare participant questionnaires and training manuals
  • Quantitative and qualitative data collection, monitoring, cleaning and analysis
  • Collaborate in the statistical design and analysis of trial findings
  • Coordinate project tasks and deliverables within research projects
  • Prepare reports for the institutional ethics review board, funders, data and safety monitoring boards and investigator meetings
  • Contribute to paper writing on research projects
  • Present data findings to stakeholders
  • Contribute to funding applications
