The Equal Education Law Centre is a team of activist lawyers working to advance the struggle for quality and equality in education, through legal advocacy and strategic litigation. The EELC works closely with our sister organisation, Equal Education, a movement of learners, parents, teachers and community members, working for quality and equality in South African education, through analysis and activism.

Job Title:  Community Engagement Coordinator
Location:  Cape Town
Duration: Fixed-term oneyear contract

Responsibilities:

  • The purpose of the Community Engagement Coordinator is to coordinate various community and stakeholder workshops across the country together with team members of the EELC.
  • Engage with team members to assist with planning and coordinating of community-based workshops, training and engagements
  • Make contact with individuals, schools and organisations to arrange education and law-related workshops
  • Assist with workshop preparation
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions
  • Support travel, venue and other logistics for community-based workshops, training and engagements
  • Support development and distribution of workshop and training materials
  • Prepare reports on workshops held and maintaining relevant databases
  • Distribute and analyse surveys aimed at evaluating workshops, training and engagements

Requirements:

  • University degree in social sciences, education, law or related field
  • Three to five years’ post-qualification working experience
  • Demonstrated experience with community engagement
  • Experience in training and facilitation essential
  • Based in the Western Cape or able to relocate
  • Ability and willingness to travel between provinces on a regular basis
  • Fluency in more than two South African languages is an advantage
  • Attention to detail
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have own transport
