The Etafeni Day Care Centre Trust (EDCCT) (www.etafeni.org) operates a multi-purpose day care centre and range of outreach services, providing education and wellbeing services to support families and children affected by HIV. The 12 programmes employ over 100 people and include a preschool, a nutrition programme, social worker team, support groups, skills development and income-generation activities, afterschool care, support for unemployed school leavers, a mobile VCT and TB-screening programme and door to door outreach and counselling. The Etafeni Day Care Centre Trust seeks to fill the following:

Job Title: Director

Job Location: Nyanga, Cape Town



The Director will report directly to the Board of Trustees and providing overall administrative, operational and stakeholder management leadership for the EDCCT and related outreach services.   S/He will be responsible to the board for the Vision and Mission of the organization and delivering the organizational strategy, having overall fiduciary responsibility, coordinating the support services team, the Senior Programme Manager and providing motivational leadership for the EDCCT staff.

The Director will be responsible for ensuring delivery of the following key outputs: 

  • Financial wellbeing of the organisation
  • HR, including systems for performance management
  • Ongoing sustainability of the organisation and all fundraising activities
  • Maintaining the organisation’s reputation and ensuring that the organisation is well represented to all stakeholders, donors, potential partners etc.
  • Regular (monthly) meetings with the Board Chair
  • Monthly reporting and attending Financial Committee Meetings
  • Building organisational and staffing capacity to reach the target audience, meet the stated objectives effectively and efficiently
  • Overseeing the implementation of organizational policies, procedures, making suggestions for revisions where appropriate
  • Remaining informed about current trends and priorities in development, health and education (ECD) service delivery
  • Establishing good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, Government and other organization to help achieve the vision of the organization

The Director must meet the following criteria:

  • Matric, Tertiary education in Management, Social Sciences, or Community Development
  • At least 5 years of working experience in the management field in the NGO sector
  • Must be an outspoken individual with interpersonal skills
  • Organizational and administration skills
  • Conflict resolution and problem solving skills
  • Time keeping and ethical work practices
  • Ability to communicate and transfer skills to the community
  • Excellent communication skills in Xhosa and English
  • Driver’s license
  • Good understanding of the NGO environment
