Job Title: Satellite Platform Engineer
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

Job Summary:
The role profile provides information to be used in a wide range of Human Capital decisions which include, but are not limited to job evaluation, recruitment and selection, performance management, manpower and succession planning and training and development.
Provide support to both the VSAT Platform Manager along with the Satellite Control Center operations team and business as a whole in ensuring all Satellite platforms are performing efficiently and operating optimally.
This will include but not be limited to ongoing routine maintenance, operational configuration, analysis, second/third line support and out of hours planned and emergency engineering works.
Perform daily checks on the operational and system performance of the satellite platform infrastructure.
Provide 2nd and 3rd line support on all VSAT platform infrastructure to ensure that service SLAs are maintained.
Ensure all changes are completed and documented in line with the approved change control procedure.
Monitor and review service level performance across all platform capacities and advise/plan for any necessary increases.
New satellite service configuration and implementation.
Ensure new teleport installations are completed to highest standards with all supporting operational documentation completed,
Ensure VSAT platforms are regularly maintained, documented in line with teleport maintenance schedule.
Review and advise on IDX and Newtec Software release features and benefits, documenting risks and planning associated works.
Provide documented feedback to sales teams regarding technical solutions achievable through use of the platforms including baseband and RF.
Ensure that weekly reports are accurate, complete and submitted on time.
Ensure all supplier tickets are followed through to resolution & tied to a ticket number.
Keep up to date with evolution of VSAT technology and understand the pro’s/con’s of it and how if applicable it can be used to enhance services.

Requirements:
Relevant graduate qualification (National Diploma or Degree in Engineering or appropriate NQF level qualification
Minimum Five years post training experience in a Telecommunications environment
Newtec DLG HUB systems
iDirect Evolution HUB Systems
Excellent understanding of Satellite principles
Excellent understanding of IP networking principles
Understanding of Microsoft and Linux operating systems
Proficient in use of test and measurement equipment for fault investigation
Excellent knowledge in the use of computers and office software
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Work extended hours on occasions when required
Customer Relations experience
Calm personality and polite telephone manner
Valid drivers license
