Job Title: Internship (Project Coordinator for Women’s Rights)
Location: South Africa
Employment Type:  1 November 2020 – 30 May 2021 with potential for extension.
Remuneration: National Level Office Internship
Reports to:  Women in Finance Network aka New Faces New Voices (NFNV) South Africa Chapter Lead

The Women’s Economic Advancement Programme unit advances the work of the Graça Machel Trust in driving the economic advancement of through an enterprise development initiative to build their management and leadership capacity to grow their businesses.
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for administering and coordinating project related activities and plans for the NFNV South African Chapter.

Responsibilities:

In the identified project the NFNV Project Coordinator will, amongst others:

Analysis for Capacity Development interventions for investor readiness

  • Conduct survey for women who participated in the WESA’s entrepreneurship development program, Women Creating Wealth, (WCW) to identify who applied for investor readiness to determine type of funding institution; type product applied for; in what sector; lead time from beginning of application to final response; percentage of successes and failures and reasons etc:
    • Identify the technical support they received
    • Identify the impact on their success or failure
  • Conduct an in-depth diagnostic analysis on each applicant’s investor readiness profile
    • Decide what will be the best follow up process.

Program planning with Women in Finance Network/New Faces New Voices (NFNV) South Africa Chapter Lead(s)

  • Lead in the appointment of a funding specialist in-country to do a follow up on each of the entrepreneurs on their funding experience to understand the demand side challenges and remedial actions including a tailor-made investors readiness programme.
  • Engage with the relevant financial institutions to address technical gaps to show our commitments and help build our relationship as partners with them to address some of their supply side issues to access to funding for women in South Africa
  • Write up case studies and hold workshops on best practices
  • Develop a programme to replicate and scale the programme with the rest of the entrepreneurs in the programme in the upcoming year

Documentation: Knowledge creation, management & dissemination

  • Document and share findings in a user-friendly format.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging best practices on enhancing capacity building interventions and enterprise development, including good practice examples, and guidelines through internal and external networks.
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends and developments in addressing investor readiness related issues.
  • Contribute to team-wide communications and knowledge management and participate in organisation-wide events and discussions on related topics/projects.
  • Attending and participate in network update meetings, organizational reviews and planning as well as other meetings that relate to the work of the Women in Finance Network, NFNV South Africa Chapter

Requirements:
Education:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences, with a strong preference for degrees in Economics, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Political Science or related field

Experience

  • Some experience as a Project Coordinator is preferable
  • Some experience in project management, from conception to delivery, is preferable
  • An ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules and step-by-step action plans
  • Solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time-management
  • Strong client-facing and teamwork skills
  • Familiarity with risk management and quality assurance control is preferable
  • Some experience in women’s rights
  • Some hands-on experience with project management tools is preferable

Technical competencies (Knowledge, skills and abilities)

  • An understanding of the NGO sector
  • Knowledge of women’s rights and issues of women’s empowerment
  • Understanding of networking and building partnerships with a range of individuals and organizations in the same field of work
  • Good communication and writing abilities in English with the ability to produce clearly written reports
  • Good research skills
  • Experience in donor-funded project and events coordination
  • Ability to use information and communication technology as a tool and resources
  • Ability to work independently and in “virtual” teams, as of the implementation will be done solely by the network partner at country level
  • Good MS-Office computer skills including data capture
