The iThemba rape and trauma support centre is a Nonprofit organisation, dedicated to offering comprehensive care for the survivors of traumatic events, as well as their family and friends. This care includes counselling, treatment for physical trauma, prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases and the careful gathering of forensic evidence.

 

 

Job Title: Social Worker
Location: Benoni
Employment type: Fixed Term Contract – 1 September 2020 to April 2021

Responsibilities:

  • Client case work and Administration:
    • Conduct psycho social assessment session with new clients, compile assessment reports, closing summaries and process notes
    • Compile and submit VEP services and community outreach statistics for the Department of Social Development
    • Record keeping of statistics and client files
    • Schedule appointments for counselling and diaries the dates
  • Training:
    • Attend monthly training
    • Attend training facilitated by the Department of Social Development and Community of Safety
    • Attend trainings aimed at acquiring CPD points as per the SACSSP’s expectations
  • Therapeutic Counselling:
    • Trauma debriefing for robbery, hijacking and other trauma related cases
    • Individual and group therapy for victims of rape and domestic violence
    • Bereavement counselling, telephonic debriefing for suicidal clients, conduct case management for internally referred clients
  • Supervision:
    • Attend case conference to discuss new cases, consultation to supervisor when handling challenging cases
    • Arrange for supervision with the Chief Social Workers on the case management files allocated to you
  • Community Based Outreach and Networking:
    • Conduct community outreach programmes and awareness campaigns about rape and domestic violence
    • Submit information for referral purposes and forward relevant information to other stakeholders for updates
    • Liaise with other professionals such as psychologists, psychiatrists, SAPS, Government Welfare Agencies and NGO’s involved in the criminal justice system
    • Refer clients to relevant internal and external stakeholders for further intervention such as shelters and court preparation
    • Build up comprehensive resource list
  • Networking and Referrals:
    • Liaise with other professionals such as psychologists, psychiatrists, SAPS, Government Welfare Agencies and NGO’s involved in the criminal justice system
    • Refer clients to internal and external stakeholders for further intervention such as shelters and court preparation
    • Build up comprehensive resource list
    • Research other shelters where clients who do not meet the criteria of iKhaya le Themba can be placed
    • Conduct case management on cases referred internally, telephone follow up with clients on internal services received
  • Meetings:
    • Attend VEP forum meetings, attending general staff meetings with iThemba Chief Social Worker, Centre Manager and other meetings as per schedule with the Professional Service Director
    • Attend and participate in the Annual General Meeting.

 Requirements:

  • South African Citizen or holds a South African Work permit
  • Social Work qualification
  • Registers with the SACSSP
  • Current proof of payment for the year 2020/2021 with the SACSSP
  • Minimum five years of experience working as a Social Worker
  • Be familiar with the South African Social Worker legislative requirements including Covid-19 rules
  • Computer proficiency

  • Valid driver’s licence with driving experience of at least 5 years
  • Certified copy of the driver’s licence
  • Criminal vetting certificate

  • Knowledge in Supervision
  • Knowledge of legislations related to VEP programme
  • Ability to interact comfortably and effectively with people from different backgrounds.

  • Ability to work with team and without supervision
