Job Title: Manager for the Gangstar Cafe 
Job Location:  Mowbray and Durbanville, Cape Town

Hours: Full Time

Duration: 12 months fixed term contract

Salary: R 15 000

Responsible to:  Mark Slessenger Deputy CEO – Gangstar Director

Gangstar Enterprise Development, a social enterprise owned by The Message Trust South Africa. The business is seeking a highly motivated and competent individual for the position of Café Manager for both our Mowbray and Durbanville Cafes, as well as our mobile coffee events.

Staff Training and Management

  • Manage staff on a day to day basis, ensuring they deliver all responsibilities in excellence
  • Train staff to be efficient in all operational processes such as customer service, product delivery, cleanliness, financial protocols, etc
  • Help oversee the daily operations of the café, ensuring that all Café operations are adhered to and delivered

 Food/Beverage and Coffee Quality and Delivery

  • Ensure our Café menu is of the highest quality in price, production and delivery
  • Ensure we maintain high-quality coffee standards that are delivered wholesale and sold directly in our café’s and events
  • Train all staff to know the menu, recipes and costings of all products
  • Develop strong business relationships with suppliers
  • Manage stock and costings to ensure maximum gross profit margin
  • Ability to develop a catering arm of Gangstar Café so we can serve at events and externally to our partners and other business opportunities

Customer Service Delivery 

  • Develop and script a Gangstar customer service experience/process
  • Train all staff to provide excellence in our customer service delivery methods
  • Ensure customers are made to feel special when entering and leaving Café
  • Turn customers into loyal customers, who will become our marketing agents in Cape Town
  • Liaise with customers directly, sharing our story and win them over to grow our customer base

Culture of Hope and Inspiration

  • Work with our communications team to communicate the Gangstar Story in store and externally
  • Help our media team train Gangstars to share their stories
  • Use initiative in providing creative ways to share about Gangstar in store, and leave customers wanting to know more and get involved

Clear Processes and Operations

  • Develop Gangstar training process manuals in the key operational areas and for every staff member to be trained and equipped in these areas
  • Ensure the financial management is tight and all finances are reported on, documented and submitted to our finance department

Café Growth

  • Grow the business model, using initiative in all areas of the business
  • Work with Deputy CEO on implementing the business plan
  • Work closely with the communications team to ensure that the Café is always well promoted.

 Other

  • Where possible, attend morning prayer meetings from 8:45 to 9:00
  • Attend weekly staff devotions and meeting on Tuesdays
  • Attend prayer day once a month with the wider organisation

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as food industry manager
  • Full driver’s license and own personal vehicle
  • Experience in the coffee industry
  • Organisational and administrative skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Thorough understanding of diverse business processes and strategy development
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases and information systems
  • Understanding of research methods and data analysis techniques
  • Appropriate business administration/management qualification
  • Have previous experience in the food and coffee industry
  • A leader, able to lead and inspire others towards a collective vision and purpose
  • Have passion and motivation to make a difference in the lives of others and are willing to go above and beyond, this is not a job for you but a sense of calling
  • Ability to see gaps, have imitative and make things happen
  • Administratively astute, good with processes and able to keep on top of all aspects of the business
  • Ability to generate a profit through providing tight controls in stock management, financial management, food costings and sourcing the best suppliers for the business
  • A team player and motivate those around you to be better, always pulling the best out of others and taking them to the next level
  • Ability to come up with other creative business ideas that can open up more job opportunities for other Gangstars in the future including event management, catering, mobile coffee units and other cafes
