Job Title: Mission Director
Job Location: Cape Town

The Missions Director will oversee the Creative Mission department, one of our three key strategic areas in The Message Trust.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management

  • Work with the Executive Team in strategic planning for the mission
  • To line manage our team leaders and project managers within the Missions department, ensuring that they operate efficiently and flexibly, and are focused upon meeting their goals
  • Develop and utilise relevant reporting systems, and use these to ensure ongoing high-quality performance in all areas
  • Work with Message Media to commission relevant marketing and communications, including websites, print work, press articles, and related tasks
  • Utilise HR systems of goal-setting, one-to-one supervisions and staff appraisals, and encouraging team leaders to gain relevant new skills and experience
  • Contribute to the general development of a healthy organisational culture within the Message Trust

New Project Development

Financial responsibility

  •  In consultation with the finance department, establish and maintain effective and efficient systems of accounting, financial and other management controls within the areas of the post-holder’s own remit, and to contribute to a team-based approach on other aspects of The Message Trust’s overall activity
  • Seek out and secure funding opportunities consistent with the goals of the Missions department

Performance Management

  • Oversee the performance of the Missions team, ensuring systems are in place for monitoring performance and taking timely corrective action whenever necessary
  • Oversee training initiatives for the development of staff and volunteers within the Missions team with a view to long-term retention of existing staff and attracting new team members
  • Actively engage in own personal development

Other Expectations

  • Submit monthly written report to Message SA Exec
  • Attend Executive team meetings
  • Attend prayer days in Message HQ on a monthly basis
  • Regular line management meetings with the Chief Executive Officer
  • Increase the support base of Message across Cape Town, both in prayer supporters and financial supporters
  • Participate in Message Sunday’s – sharing stories of gospel transformation
  • Network with other mission ministries in the Cape Town

Requirements:

  • Energy and business acumen, innovation and entrepreneurial skills
  • Open and sharing approach to collaborating with the Executive Team
  • Leadership, team-building, motivational and staff management skills
  • Ability to balance financial and non-financial objectives, analyse information, make sound judgements, appraise performance and manage risk
  • Networking, influencing/promotional and negotiating skills
  • Ability to develop and sustain public and voluntary sector partnerships
  • Strong self-motivation
  • A “hands-on” attitude, able to roll-up sleeves and pitch-in with practical task delivery
  • Successful management track record including change and innovation

  • Personal integrity and commitment to working as part of a team
  • The post-holder will be expected to enter fully into The Message Trust team life, including morning prayers, monthly prayer days and evening prayer meetings
  • Be experienced in the creative arts and working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Passionate about sharing the Christian faith with youth at risk across Cape Town in schools, prisons and communities
