Nal’ibali (isiXhosa for “here’s the story”) is a national reading-for-enjoyment campaign. It seeks to spark and embed a culture of reading across South Africa, so that reading, writing, and sharing stories – in all South African languages – is part of everyday life.

The Nal’ibali Trust is launching an exciting new project to bring the power of Stories to communities.

Job Title: Literacy Mentor
Job Location: To be based either in KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Western Cape or Gauteng

As the Story Power in Motion Literacy Mentor you will be tasked with driving the TUK-TUKS (mobile libraries) and engaging with local communities to reach new audiences, build partnerships and support ongoing activities to promote reading for enjoyment in spaces such as libraries, preschools, clinics and public spaces.

Requirements:

  • Matric
  • Two years’ community work experience
  • Driver’s license
  • Written and verbal skills in English and IsiZulu, IsiXhosa or Sesotho
  • Independent, self-motivated person
