Job Title: Special Projects Manager
Job Location: Mowbray, Cape Town
The purpose of the position is to conceptualise, manage and support the development and delivery of an effective face-to-face reading for enjoyment programme into South African society.
Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and evaluation: Manage implementation and strengthening of Nal’ibali monitoring and evaluation system, develop and roll out monitoring and evaluation frameworks/tools/processes for new projects, and ensure quality and integrity of monitoring and evaluation data
- Reporting: Manage reporting to funders, ensure reporting deadlines are met, and ensure reports are of a high standard
- Research: Plan and implement internal evaluation and quality assurance processes, support external evaluations, and contribute to research agenda
- Leadership and management: Manage a geographically-dispersed team of junior monitoring and evaluation staff
- Capacity building: Train staff members on monitoring and evaluation tools and processes
- Collaboration: Work with other departments to ensure monitoring and evaluation and research processes and findings are integrated into all projects, and used to nurture a culture of high performance and evidence-based decision-making
Requirements:
- Honours or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Monitoring and Evaluation, Economics, Statistics, Social Sciences, Business or Public Administration, Social Development), or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of five years’ relevant work experience
- Experience working in the education, literacy development, and/or community development sectors, and experience working on behaviour change campaigns, is advantageous
- Experience developing, implementing and strengthening large-scale monitoring and evaluation systems
- English writing and communication skills, with significant experience reporting to funders
- Proven track record of managing projects
- Proven track record of managing people, and of building capacity via mentoring and training, strong facilitation skills desirable
- Proven track record of quantitative data analysis and interpretation
- Significant experience using Salesforce CRM platform strongly preferred, including building reports and dashboards
- Research design and implementation experience desirable, including quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Competency in at least one South African language in addition to English is strongly preferred
- An independent and driven self-starter, able to work proactively and independently with minimal supervision, and turn ideas into realistic plans and processes
- A focused, efficient person, able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and multi-task without compromising quality of delivery
- A collaborative, developmental team player, with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, able to manage and mentor a geographically-dispersed, diverse team and work well across departments
- A versatile, detail-orientated data nerd, who is experienced at collecting, cleaning, analysing and interpreting both quantitative and qualitative data
- A clear and compelling communicator, who can produce well-structured, high-quality reports, communicate data to a variety of audiences and effectively train people on monitoring and evaluation tools and processes
- A strategic and analytical person, who can both see the big picture and wrestle with detail
- A person who is passionate about literacy development and social justice
