The South African Education and Environment Project (SAEP) is a nonprofit organisation working with children and youth at key points in their education, including pre-school, primary, high school, post matric and tertiary.

Job Title: Lead Fundraiser and Communications coordinator

Job Location: Mowbray, Cape Town.

Responsibilities: 

Fundraising

  • Grant and proposal writing
  • Participate in sustainability and strategy development
  • Oversight and strengthening of individual giving programme
  • Oversight and implementation of institutional fundraising
  • Stewardship of donors
  • Prospect research (local and international, especially US-based)

Communications and media

  • Report-writing in collaboration with programmes
  • Oversight of S18A and thank-you letters
  • Handle all website, social media and online presence
  • Prepare Annual report, publication and distribution
  • Develop all branding and marketing strategy, and materials
  • Plan, implement and coordinate marketing activities and events
  • Fundraising department reports to the Board
  • Develop and implement media strategy and release (radio, print, etc)
  • Write appropriate stories for proposals, and public release

General Admin

  • Fundraising planning calendar
  • Records keeping
  • Ensure that proposals, as well as reports are submitted per deadlines
  • Coordination of team activities and plans
  • Ensure that donor and fundraising related transactions and accounts are logged on Salesforce

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification relevant to the requirements of the post
  • Minimum five to eight years in fundraising experience or similar capacity
  • Sound proposal and report-writing skills
  • Can drive with valid SA driver’s licence
  • Knowledge of the NGO sector and particularly in the area of education
  • Good with numbers, and an understanding of budget and financials
  • Proficient report writing skills in English language
  • Effective story-teller
  • Great networker
  • Solid English communication skills (in isiXhosa is a great plus)
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Salesforce (is a great advantage)
  • Understanding of website design and back-end
  • Medium to advance knowledge in the use of media apps such as Mailchimp, various Google apps, and other similar platforms
  • Canva, inDesign, Photoshop or similar tools
  • Knowledge in online donate/giving platforms such as – Give-and-Gain, Snapscan
  • Social media savvy for use in marketing strategy including – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Buffer, HootSuite, etc.
  • Knowledge on WordPress, photography a plus
  • People skills, relationship builder, positive and pleasant attitude
  • Energetic and a team-player
  • Ability to work under pressure, disciplined with effective time management skills Strong work ethic, integrity and honesty, creative and pays attention to detail
  • Interpersonal skills, communication and negotiation skills, collaborator, resilient, and can handle work pressure
  • Have visits to our beneficiaries in Philippi, as well as to various event venues, and tertiary campuses as may be required
