The Women on Farms Project (hereafter referred to as WFP) situated in Stellenbosch was originally a project of Lawyers for Human Rights that began in 1992. In 1996, WFP became an independent non-governmental organisation focusing on providing rights education and capacity development for action and advocacy to women farm workers within the Boland region.

At present, the organisation has 3 specific portfolios: Labour Rights, Organisation Building and Social Rights. Within the social rights portfolio there are 2 programmes, maintenance and violence against women.

 

 

Job Title: Labour Rights Programme Coordinator
Location: WFP’s office in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.
 Remuneration: dependant on experience and qualification

The goal of the WFP Labour Rights Programme is to contribute, assist and support women farm workers in realising their labour rights.

Skills and Experienced required:

  • Relevant Social Science degree
  • Extensive knowledge of labour rights in the agricultural sector
  • Feminist approach to labour rights
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the labour rights movement
  • Strong understanding of the political and economic context
  • Experience in government policy engagement
  • Ability to run effective public campaigns
  • Project management experience
  • Sound communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Xhosa/Afrikaans and English language proficiency
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Driver’s license essential
