The U.S. Mission in Pretoria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for a position of Computer Management Specialist in the Information Systems Center (ISC).
Basic Duties
The incumbent is a Regional Database Administrator responsible for administration, operation, and management of network database for the entire Mission (including the Embassy in Pretoria and Consulates Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg).
He/she mantains servers on the network in Pretoria, including updates, patching, security and backups.
He/she will act as a section’s purchasing agent and trainer/coordinator for all Mission computer and software related courses.
The position is a SharePoint designer and developer.
This person reports directly to the Information Systems Chief.

 

 

 

 

 

Job Title: Computer Management Specialist
Location: Pretoria

Job Summary:
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Network and Server Administrator:
Provide network and server administrative services to the various databases on the network and File and Print Servers in accordance with DoS policies, regulations established by DoS Information Resource Management (IRM) and Diplomatic Security (DS).
This includes the following; Performs hardware and software installations on both servers and workstations, modifications, preventative maintenance and System activities such as the deployment, configuration and monitoring of all networked applications on 700 clients functioning at 6 locations country wide.
This extensive network contains mission critical records from the various applications for Internet, Program and ICASS users.
Responsible for the smooth operations and overall security and functionality of the various Databases, including encryption, creating, modifying and retiring user accounts.
Advises on applying tools to improve statistics by proper ticket management.
Applies updates to databases and network applications.
Installs all upgrades, patches and fixes to secure data. Makes configuration changes to affected servers.
roubleshoots errors reported by users and recorded in logs.

General Software Support:
Assists with end user problems by providing second level end user support for all IT function including: Using PST files, Outlook configuration errors, file management, printing connectivity problems, printer install, digital sender install and configuration.
Assist with the mitigation of iPost scores.
Serves as database administrator for various programs to include but not limited to Contact Management DB and event support.
Maintains image deployment system (e.g. Windows Deployments Server, Ghost) to have latest images and ensure functionality.

SharePoint Designer/Developer:
He/She will be the in-house expert on SharePoint site design and development. As such he/she will be responsible for the following:
Ensure the DoS configuration and security standards for SharePoint sites are followed.
Ensure proper permissions and access levels are maintained on all sites and sub-sites.
Help design and implement sites, including WebParts and custom code, to meet user and management requirements.
This will include analyzing requirements, processes and functionality required to recommend solutions, then implement agreed solution.
Coordinate upgrades, backups and patches with the rest of the network support team.

Financial Applications:
He/She is the technical expert at post for the financial applications. This includes COAST, ILMS, MIPS, ECC, QuickBooks. Responsibilities include:
Creates user accounts, unlocks user accounts, monitors and notifies FMO to retire departed accounts and troubleshoots errors reported by users.
Monitors all user access to maintain privilege and integrity of the cost centers and troubleshoots errors with this intricate system.
Loads updates, installs all new upgrades on servers as well as client machines.

IT Trainer and Procurement Coordinator:
He/She is the IT trainer at Post, along with the Senior Computer Management Specialist. Responsibilities include;
Is responsible for providing application training to the user community, specific IT training to the IT community.
Arranges with Subject Matter Experts to provide training, as needed, to Mission personnel.
Manages training plans and training budgets and institutes classes on software and hardware and new applications.
Prepares and recommends training regimens, schedules and curriculum.
Maintains the training library, Standard Operating Procedures, and overseas IT support for the Pretoria training classrooms.
Places and tracks purchase orders as requested and needed by ISC and IPC. This includes software subscriptions and End of Year orders.

Qualifications Required:
Education:

A bachelor’s degree in Information Techoolgy or Computer Science is required

Prior Work Experience:
Minimum 5 years experience managing Windows Server 2012, or newer OS, and WAN/LAN telecom server based, active directory, networking systems, including 3 years performing SharePoint maintenance and design is required. Responsiblities and experience may be concurent.

Job Knowledge

The job holer must have excellent knowledge of LAN/WAN networking operations and systems analysis and design. Must have a thorough understanding of how IT applications support Business Processes. Must have excellent knowledge of Microsoft suite software and operating systems currently used by DoS such as MS Office 2016, MSExchange, Active Directory, SQL Enterprise Server and Server 2012 or newer.

Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to maintain a server based network with minimal supervision. Ability and aptitude to troubleshoot network communications. Effectively communicate and have ability to instruct others individually and in groups. Able to establish priorities to ensure projects are completed. Must have excellent organizational, record keeping, and professional interpersonnel skills. Must carry heavy equipment weighing up to 23 kgs. Serves as occasional moneyholder.
