Unisa is the only publicly funded Higher Education Institution in South Africa dedicated to distance education.  In keeping with its mandate as a comprehensive, Open and Distance Learning Tertiary Institution offering a variety of academic and career-focused programmes, the University is inviting applications for the position of Executive Director: Information & Statistical Analysis.

Roles and responsibilities

 The aim of the position is to contribute to institutional effectiveness and performance by analysing relevant and current research information and performance indicators, for management decision making.

 

Key responsibilities include the following:

Information and statistical analysis

§  Participates in the strategy formulation process of the University by providing progress and trends against set institutional performance indicators.

§  Build and maintain an integrated organisational intelligence framework;

§  Provide technology enhanced management information solutions to all relevant stakeholders;

§  Provides accurate, timely and reliable management information and analysis to support institutional planning, decision making as well as policy advocacy and planning.  This will include amongst others, trends on student success and graduation rates, enrolment targets against set norms, cohort studies and student profiling.

§  Supports institutional planning and decision making through providing relevant scenario analysis and forecasting of institutional and secure data;

§  Ensures accurate HEMIS statutory reporting for subsidy purposes and oversees that a depository of the audited data is kept.

§  Ensures the provision of accurate and reliable management information to improve and optimise

strategic decision making and institutional effectiveness;

§  Prepares and submits statutory reports on official University statistics to the Department of Higher Education & Training in compliance with statutory reporting requirements

 

Institutional research

§  Conducts an ongoing programme of relevant institutional research and environmental scanning and analysis;

§  Manages multiple research projects namely, institutional profiling and evaluation, student profiling, benchmarking and surveys to identify institutional strengths and weaknesses;

§  Develops and conducts the annual student profile survey of psychological and socio-economic factors for assessment of student risk, and to enable the configuring of effective student support;

§  Conduct strategic discussion forums on relevant institutional research matters;

§  Analyses the Higher Education system’s research outputs for determination of UNISA’s position/ranking;

§  Manages the daily operations and activities of the department, coaches and guides staff on an ongoing basis;

§  Establishes the department as a nationally and internationally recognised centre of innovation and expertise in the field of management information, institutional research and analysis and planning

 

Requirements 

  • A Doctoral degree  in relevant field – NQF level 10
  • Minimum of 10 – 15 years’ experience in policy research & analysis in a research/university environment, with an appropriate publications record

§  Business intelligence and strategic analysis

§  Minimum of three years project management experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in senior management

 

Assumption of duties:  As soon as possible

Salary: Remuneration is commensurate with the seniority of the position
