The Finance Officer provides support to the University through its Campus Planning and Development (CPD) Division to consolidate and manage the finance and administration function of its capital projects programme and that of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) new universities project and develop capacity within this office to carry out these functions.

 

The Finance Officer is responsible for providing financial, administrative and support function in order to ensure an effective, efficient and accurate financial and administrative operations including:

 

· Oversee financial and project accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with revenue and programme budgets throughout the funding period; collate financial reporting materials for government, donors and stakeholders;

 

· Leverage strengths of the interdepartmental finance and project team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement systems in order to maximise efficiency;

· Assist in establishing division’s annual plans and coordinate audit activities, ensuring compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements and internal operational structures and controls.

 

Requirements:

· A Degree or diploma in business or administration and certification in accountancy or financial management.

· Minimum five (5) years’ of related work experience.

· Proven project accounting experience.

· Knowledge of financial databases and processes (accountancy packages).

· Developing and maintaining effective office systems and procedures.

· Excellent computer literacy skills including the ability to operate spreadsheets (Excel) and word processing (Word) applications and database programmes at a highly proficient level.

· Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to respond tactfully and appropriately to enquiries from a range of individuals and/or groups.
