The Western Cape Government is inviting suitably qualified applicants for the following apprentice opportunities:

Carpenter Reference number: APR 04/2012
Plumber Reference number: APR 05/2012

 Only applicants residing in the Cape Metro, Cape Wine lands and Overberg regions are eligible to apply.  Applicants must enjoy good health and be prepared to undergo a medical examination.  Applicants have to participate in numeracy, literacy and interest testing before the final selection is made.  Selected applicants will be required to work on a construction site as part of the selection process for a period of 2 – 3 months.   Successful applicants must be willing to travel and work at various sites within the Cape Metro, Cape Wine lands and Overberg regions during training.  A three year training programme will follow. Training entails: study of technical subjects, undergo practical training on site, apply health and safety regulations, housekeeping (cleaning of work areas) and undertake administrative tasks.

REMUNERATION: Successful learners will earn a monthly stipend of R2 850,00 per month and will be required to sign a contract with the Department.

REQUIREMENTS: A Grade 12 (Matric) or Technical Matric Certificate with mathematics with a minimum pass of 50% Applicants must be between the ages of 18 – 25 ♦ Good written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the official Languages of the Western Cape.

RECOMMENDATIONS:  Applicants from Technical Schools.  An interest or aptitude for the trade of plumbing and carpentry. Youth with working experience in the Plumbing and Carpentry trades.

COMPETENCIES:  Technical Skills (Practical).  Numeracy Skills (determine mathematical ability).  Literacy Skills (reading and writing ability). ♦ Knowledge of the plumbing and/or carpentry trades General knowledge of the Built Environment.
