WESSA (the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) is a South African environmental organisation which aims to initiate and support high impact environmental and conservation projects to promote participation in caring for the Earth. Job Title: Project Manager
Salary: To be discussed
Report to: The Programme Manager

This is a two years’ fixed term contract

Responsibilities:

    • Manage relationships with partners (CHDM and associated partners) and implement the project in line with contract and budget.
    • Secure new funding in the region with respect to growing the Water/Energy Nexus section of the Water and Energy Pillar.
    • Maintain strong relationships with District Officials and further afield and elevate the project within this sector.
    • Manage and support the Schools and Youth Programme in the area, specifically Eco-Schools, Entrepreneurship and Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE)

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience, directly related to experience working with District Municipalities and rural communities
  • Experience working with renewable energy installations
  • Three years’ tertiary qualification in environmental science or similar
  • Previous work experience in capacity building and skills training
  • Strong facilitation and organisational skills
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Key personal skills of initiative, self-motivation and self-management
  • Ability to interact confidently with external stakeholders
  • Computer literacy, Microsoft Office Skills
  • Fluency in English and at least one other South African language
  • Competent driving skills, valid driver’s license and own car is essential
