We are looking for a person to ensure accurate administration and compliance of all direct imports shipments.

Minimum Requirements

What theoretical knowledge (e.g. degree / diploma) does the job require?

International trade or shipping course / diploma
Understanding of related technical terms, processes and procedures pertaining forwarding, shipping and clearing.
Advanced skills in Excel and Customs clearance system
What experience (e.g. previous exposure) does the job require?

A Minimum of 5 years customs clearing experience in products and foods with additional experience in forwarding and shipping

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Adherence and delivery against Business Unit’s scorecards and service level agreements (SLA)

Ensure that all Customs and National Ports Authority processes and systems are conformed with

Report on all areas of the business, customers, service providers, SARS and NPA to improve operating efficiencies and continuous improvement

Accurate processing and reconciling of cargo dues and NPA invoices and cancellations

Validating Customs tariffs within agreed Tradestream deadlines

Validating Customs tariff s framed on SAD 500 against the invoice and shipping documents for submission to Customs

Ensure Import SAD 500 complies with Duty Drawback requirements ie style no.

Administer Quality control on all SAD 500 Import Declarations

Electronic submission of SAD 500 to SARS and follow up on status of Bills of Entry

Adherence to customs 2 hour turnaround time when dealing with queries

Administer all import customs cases as per SARS policy

Provide tariff classification for potential new imports

Publish all Tariff amendments and duty changes weekly

Adherence to Government Departments Import requirements – Permits for Port Health, Plant Inspector, State Vet etc.

Update customs HS Tariff Book via Jacobsons

Arrange and attend all SARS custom stops and inspections (Sea and Air Imports)

Arrange Collections of Customs release SAD 500, Bills of Lading, NPA Cargo Dues and statements

Track and Trace customs clearance status of all uncleared shipments

Adherence to Corporate Governance Principles

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

Technical Competencies

Knowledge of Customs and excise laws and more particularly are conversant with the Customs and Excise Act
Understanding of the freight Industry and Shipping regulations and procedures
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of Incoterms, foreign exchange procedures and Letters of Credit
Understanding of warehouse and operations, including bonded warehouse requirements
Understanding of computer packages and is able to capture information and produce reports
Understanding of consequential impacts of decisions made
In depth understanding of relevant legislation
Ability to analyse and interpret financial and performance indicators at a detailed level.
Ability to act to budgetary targets
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the business measures and targets relating to own role
Ability to quickly develop a knowledge and understanding of the suppliers’, customer and service provider business and demonstrates a passion for customer delivery
Demonstrates an understanding of the impact of own role on service delivery to internal and external customers
Customer Service mindset
Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail
Able to work flexible hours in line with the business requirements
