Reporting to the Superintendent: Safety, as the Business Partner: HSE, you will provide an effective HSE service, in consultation with HSE Specialists, to a designated Division in accordance with the respective service delivery requirements in order to ensure optimum HSE performance and license to operate within the Business Unit.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
JOB OBJECTIVES:<\/p>\n
– Assist with the monitoring of compliance to identified HSE local and national legal requirements<\/p>\n
– Ensure that local and national legal HSE requirements are identified and communicated as well as understood<\/p>\n
– Manage HSE auditing, inspection and monitoring process<\/p>\n
– Manage and perform comprehensive HSE systems and compliance audits<\/p>\n
– Ensure all HSE actions are assigned and tracked to closeout<\/p>\n
– Facilitate and conduct HSE incident investigations<\/p>\n
– Facilitate HSE hazard and risk assessment processes<\/p>\n
– Advise and support line on HSE system and governance matters<\/p>\n
– Assist with contractor pre-assessment and routine HSE compliance assessments<\/p>\n
– Perform all duties as required by the Chief Safety Officer in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act<\/p>\n
– Advise in projects pertaining to HSE requirements<\/p>\n
– Capacity building of Health & Safety Representatives within each division<\/p>\n
– Coordinate HSE information flow between the respective departments within the relevant division as well as between the division and the HSE department<\/p>\n
– Review division HSE performance and report to management<\/p>\n
– Interpret and assist division in implementing annual HSE plans<\/p>\n
– Ensure a relentless focus on zero harm<\/p>\n
– Manage all incidents and associated actions on the Rio Tinto Business Solution (SAP) for each division<\/p>\n

OUTPUTS:<\/p>\n
– Successful and compliant HSE audits, incident investigations and risk assessments<\/p>\n
– Compliant HSE systems<\/p>\n
– Well informed and advised Health & Safety Representatives as well as line on HSE related matters<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:<\/p>\n
– National Diploma \/ BTech Degree in Safety Management \/ Degree in Natural Sciences \/ Engineering qualification with HSE experience<\/p>\n
– 3 years HSE experience in a mining or industrial environment<\/p>\n
– Exposure to ISO and OHSAS<\/p>\n
– Completed NOSA \/ SAMTRAC will be an advantage<\/p>\n
– Insight into the processes and operations of mining and the related HSE issues<\/p>\n
– Drivers License: EB (Code 08)<\/p>\n

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:<\/p>\n
– Computer literate: MS Office while SAP is preferred<\/p>\n
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills<\/p>\n
– Well-developed analytical skills and ability<\/p>\n
– Ability to work independently as well as part of a team<\/p>\n
– Strong relationship building skills<\/p>\n
– Specialized knowledge on South African Safety, Health & Environment legislation<\/p>\n
