The internship provides an exciting opportunity for graduates to develop capacity and skills in key operational areas in the City of Cape Town and gain practical hands-on experience. The interns will be mentored by managers within\u00a0relevant departments. Skills development will be enhanced by attending compulsory capacity-building and training workshops, and appropriate training interventions could also be attended when and if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>A suitably qualified intern will work in one of the following sections\/branches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Environmental and heritage management\u00a0\u2660 coastal zone management \u2660 nature conservation\u00a0\u2660 environmental education \u2660 energy and climate change (Environmental Resource Management Department \u2013 15 intern posts).<\/li>\n<li>Architecture, urban design \u2660 landscape architecture \u2660 spatial planning and quality public spaces programme (Spatial Planning and Urban Design Department \u2013 3 intern posts).<\/li>\n<li>Land use management planning (Planning and Building Development Management Department \u2013 5 intern posts).<\/li>\n<li>Entrepreneurship &amp; employment support \u2660 local area economic development (urban agriculture, policy and strategy development)\u00a0\u2660 economic information &amp; research (including information and knowledge management)\u00a0\u00a0\u2660 sector trade &amp; investment (Economic Development Department \u2013 7 intern posts).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An applicant should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a new graduate in one of the fields of environmental science\/studies \u25cf geographical science \u25cf heritage resource management \u25cf nature conservation \u25cf environmental education \u25cf energy management \u25cf architecture\/urban design\/landscape architecture \u25cf spatial planning \u25cf land use planning \u25cf economics\/business science \u25cf information and knowledge management \u25cf development studies \u25cf policy and strategy development \u25cf agriculture\/horticulture \u25cf development, agricultural or business economics \u25cf electrical, mechanical, chemical or civil engineering.<\/li>\n<li>Have good planning, administration, writing, computer, analytical and oral communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Be able to work in a team and under pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Be physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions for posts based at nature reserves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A valid driving licence is essential for certain posts.<\/p>\n<p>A minimum stipend of R28.55 per hour, based on a 40-hour week, will be paid together with selected employment fringe benefits such as paid annual leave, sick leave and training.<\/p>\n<p>Interviews will take place during early December 2013, and applicants must be able to commence work on 1 February<\/p>\n<p>2014.
