Chief engineer – telecoms and instrumentation (electronics) (Ref no: OC 57\/2013)

Requirements:<\/strong>
\nAppropriate 4 Year Degree in Electronic Engineering (NQF 7) with at least 5 year\u2019s experience in a Telecoms\/ Electronic Maintenance support environment at management level. Proven track record and experience in the following areas:
\no IT and Telecommunication including Radio Frequency Communications
\no Project Management
\no Financial Management
\no Procurement and Maintenance Management.
\nAppointment will be subject to registration with a professional engineering body.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Have acquired technical management skills in most, if not all of the following fields:
\no Contract & Service Level Management
\no Equipment calibration and understanding of electronic instruments
\no Infrastructure Management skills
\no Verbal and written communication \/ reporting
\no IT Hardware and Software
\no Networking TCP\/IP.
\nAdvanced understanding of IT Hardware and networking skills.
\nUnderstanding operations of VSATs
\nAbility to draft and interpret complex technical specifications, drawings and
\nschematics. Be committed, innovative and self-motivated
\nHave proven management capabilities and good leadership skills
\nShould be able to work independently as well as a team member.
\n <\/p>\n

Duties:<\/strong>
\nEvaluate existing network and communication systems and makes recommendations for new resources to expand service levels.
\nIdentify, evaluate, and recommend new installations after evaluating the impact on current systems.
\nCoordinate and directs Telecom projects and ensures that related departments are well supported.
\nManage and maintain contracts and Service Level Agreements with service providers.
\nDevelop and review test equipment specifications to ensure quality data.
\nEnsure all calibrations and maintenance activities are done within agreed time frames.
\nMonitor and report on the performance of the telecommunication network and associated peripherals.
\nManage unit responsible for the maintenance of instruments and telecom equipment.
\nPrepare Maintenance plans in accordance with the schedule of voyages.
\nEnsure optimal performance of the maintenance facility, through maintenance scheduling, resource distribution, procurement and inventory control.
\nPrepare the maintenance budget and provide inputs to the capital budget especially for spare parts and equipment replacement.<\/p>\n

 
\nNote:
\nThe successful candidate will be required to undergo a competency test and full medical screening. The successful candidate will have to participate in relief voyages to Marion, Gough and Antarctica that can last up
\nto 3 months at a time.
