\nTo actively manage the development of relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and other related publications from conception to approval by facilitating stakeholder consensus through technical committees.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Key Performance Areas:<\/strong>
\nDevelop relevant South African National Standards that are aligned to national trade imperatives:<\/p>\n

Develop relevant South African National Standards are developed and revised
\nEnsure that the Division\u2019s programme of work supports industrial development and is aligned with national imperatives e.g. the dti\u2019s IPAP initiative
\nDevelop standards that support South African exports
\nEnsure that South Africa\u2019s industry requirements are advanced when new international standards are developed or revised
\nUnderstand of the international trade environment and determine the impact that newly developed standards\/regulations have on the South African industry
\nAdhere to standards development processes as to ensure the integrity of new and revised standards:<\/p>\n

Develop standards that comply to the standards development processes e.g. SANS 1-1
\nDevelop standards within the WTO\/TBT requirements
\nEnsure that a representative stakeholder base is consulted when new standards are developed and revised
\nEnsure that technical committees are representative and must also include SMMEs and regional stakeholders
\nManage succession planning and demographics within technical committees
\nEnsure that the content of standards are accurate and are presented in a manner that adds value to the end user
\nManage stakeholder participation within Natural Sciences Sector:<\/p>\n

Manage all committees, standards production and stakeholders within the Natural Sciences sector
\nEstablish the need to participate in International committees including membership levels and identify the standards projects that South Africa should follow
\nEnsure that leadership opportunities in the international committees are identified e.g. Chairmanship, secretariat, WG convener etc. and discussed and that a position paper is approved by the Standards Division
\nEnsure that the mandate\/South Africa’s interests on international work items have been defended by the delegate representing South Africa and take action accordingly
\nEnsure that all committees meet as planned and have updated Strategic Policy Statements
\nManage participation in international standards development
\nWork with the Committee manager to improve the profile of the committees as identified by applying the criteria for effective committees
\nCommission discussion papers during the development of complex standards to stimulate debate
\nConduct workshops with SMEs and other stakeholders on standards that will affect them prior to the development of standards and ensure that their inputs are included during the actual development of a standard
\nEnsure that some technical committees meetings are held in the regional offices outside Gauteng
\nChair committee meetings effectively (if elected as chair or have to stand in for chair)
\nPrepare reports for management and industry as and when required
\nActively take on leadership roles in International standards development committees, i.e. WG convener and Committee secretariat (where applicable)
\nResponsible for all logistics for international meetings held in South Africa (where applicable)
\nManage productivity and the standards development process:<\/p>\n

Manage and coordinate the work programmes of different technical committees
\nApplying and communicating rules, policies and SAC decisions related to standards development and production
\nProviding assistance, guidance and training (where necessary) on SABS procedures to employees and other stakeholders
\nActing as a primary interface between technical committees and SAC including the development of briefings and updates
\nDevelop new areas including the building of a network of contacts and fostering increased participation of related organizations in existing and potential new committee activities
\nPlan and allocate resources appropriately within sphere of control
\nEnsure that the objectives of the business unit is met appropriately
\nCompile of budgets and forecasts
\nControl and management of expenditure as well as financial results
\nImplement of the performance management system and development of personnel in line with the SABS policy
\nEnsuring that the Business Unit is fully resourced and all employees are appropriately developed and given the necessary resources
\nMaintain good working relationships and teamwork within the Business Unit
\nEnsure that all stakeholders are informed and kept up to date with the status of projects and initiatives within sphere of control
\nEnsuring of dialogue between internal and external stakeholders
\nContribute to continued improvement initiatives in the production process
\nTroubleshooting difficult projects internally and externally
\nQualifications And Experience:
\nB. Degree\/National Diploma in Quality\/risk\/environment\/information technology or related discipline
\n8 years relevant experience, 5 years in management, 2 years in middle management
\nProject management experience would be an advantage
\nUnderstands the environment in which standards are developed
\nExcellent command of the English language
\nComputer literate (MS Office, Internet etc.)
