The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is a Section 3(a) public entity under the Ministry of
\nWater and Environmental Affairs. The company became a public entity on 15 July 2001 in
\nterms of the South African Weather Service Act (No. 8 of 2001). It is an authoritative voice for
\nweather and climate forecasting in South Africa and as a member of the World Meteorological
\nOrganization (WMO) it complies with international meteorological standards. As an Aviation
\nMeteorological Authority, SAWS is designated by the state to provide weather services to the
\naviation industry, marine and a range of other identified clients and to fulfil a range of
\ninternational obligations of the government.

Key Performance Areas<\/strong><\/p>\n The purpose of the job is to facilitate a safe, efficient and cost effective Meteorological (Met) \uf0b7 Regulate and manage the standards of provision and dissemination of SA and appropriate <\/p>\n Requirements:<\/strong> Enquiries for the above-mentioned position must be directed to:
\nservice, meeting users\u2019 needs, in accordance with ICAO Standards and Recommended
\nPractices (SARPS) and national regulatory requirements<\/p>\n
\nglobal aviation Met services, so as to meet user operational requirements in a cost
\nbeneficial manner that contributes to safety, timeliness, efficiency, and regularity of
\noperations.
\n\uf0b7 Manage the planning, development and introduction into service of future civil aviation.
\n\uf0b7 Monitor and contribute to the formulation both of global and regional ICAO Met
\nprogrammes.
\n\uf0b7 Manage the planning, development and introduction into service of future civil aviation
\nMet products.
\n\uf0b7 Provide the functions of the Met Authority for SA as per ICAO Annex 3, and to act as the
\nCAA focal point for civil aviation Met matters.
\n\uf0b7 Manage support staff and ensure the efficient administration of the section.
\n\uf0b7 Participate in all activities related to the implementation and\/or maintenance of the SAWS
\nTQM system.<\/p>\n
\nAn appropriate B.degree qualification in Meteorology or equivalent qualification with 8-10
\nyears of aviation forecasting or relevant experience. Knowledge of the impact of meteorology
\non aircraft operations. Good understanding of the objectives and working practices of the
\nICAO. Ability to communicate persuasively and effectively to national and international
\naudiences both verbally and in writing. Ability to listen and appreciate the divergent views of
\nvarious aviation disciplines and interests and to use tact and diplomacy to develop logical and
\nacceptable solutions to complex issues. Previous Met authority inspections experience would
\nbe an added advantage.<\/p>\n
