The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is a Section 3(a) public entity under the Ministry of
\nWater and Environmental Affairs and is governed by a Board of Directors. The company
\nbecame a public entity on 15 July 2001 in terms of the South African Weather Service Act (No.
\n8 of 2001). It is an authoritative voice for weather and climate forecasting in South Africa and
\nas a member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) it complies with international
\nmeteorological standards. As an Aviation Meteorological Authority, SAWS is designated by
\nthe state to provide weather services to the aviation industry, marine and a range of other
\nidentified clients and to fulfil a range of international obligations of the government. The

\nundertake the following tasks:<\/p>\n
\n\uf0b7 Set up the OHS and competency within SAWS.
\n\uf0b7 Implement full scope of the OHS policy and the Act.
\n\uf0b7 Conduct training organisation wide on health and safety matters pertinent to the
\nbusiness of SAWS.
\n\uf0b7 Understanding of COID and finalising COID claims.
\n\uf0b7 Ensure that all SAWS facilities comply with required OHSA.
\n\uf0b7 Manage all risks related to OHSA.
\n\uf0b7 Development of a SAWS evacuation plans for facilities and all associated signage.
\n\uf0b7 Alignment of the OHS policy of SAWS to the Disaster Recovery Plan and its Business
\nContinuity strategy.
\n\uf0b7 Participate in all activities related to the implementation and\/or maintenance of the
\nSAWS TQM system<\/p>\n
\n\uf0b7 An appropriate Bachelor\u2019s degree in relevant field e.g. Environmental Health
\n(specialised in OHS), coupled with professional registration with HPCSA or reputable
\nequivalent e.g. SAMTRAC
\n\uf0b7 Operational experience in Occupational Health and Safety issues.
\n\uf0b7 At least 5 years\u2019 experience at management level.<\/p>\n
\n\uf0b7 Training skills on OHS marshals for the organisation.
\n\uf0b7 Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, OHSAS 18000, BCEA and the Labour
\nRelations Act. COIDA
\n\uf0b7 An understanding of Rules and regulations of the Compensation.
\n\uf0b7 An understanding of Human Resource processes and procedures.<\/p>\n
