REQUIREMENTS : Mine Manager\u2019s Certificate of Competency (Metalliferous or Coal) with
\nappropriate experience in the mining industry and a valid driver\u2019s licence PLUS
\nthe following key competencies:\uf032Knowledge of:\uf069Mine Health and Safety
\nAct\uf069Extensive knowledge and experience of both Underground and surface
\nmining.\uf069Basic Knowledge of Labour Relations and Resources\uf069Understanding
\nof DMR policies aimed at optimal utilisation of mineral resource\uf032Skills:\uf069High \u2013
\nlevel management.\uf069Risk assessment techniques\uf069Conflict resolution and
\nNegotiation.\uf069Planning and organising\uf069Budget Control\uf069Problem
\nsolving\uf069Computer literacy \uf032Communication :\uf069Ability to communicate verbally
\nand in writing in such a way that the image and professionalism of the department
\nis enhanced. \uf032Creativity:\uf069Ability to analyse workload and work related
\nproblems and to implement a strategy to ensure a continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
DUTIES : The appointee\u2019s primary responsibility will be to enforce adherence to the Mine
\nHealth and Safety Act, 1996 (Act No 29 of 1996). In addition she\/he
\nwill:\uf069Conduct inspections, audits, investigation and inquiries into accidents and
\nIncidents.\uf069Give support and assistance in promotion of health and safety in the
\nmining industry.\uf069Make inputs on regional action plan to develop strategies
\nrequired to monitor legal compliance by mines.\uf069Play a role in the formulation of
\nhealth and safety legislation, guidelines and various regulatory
\nmechanisms.\uf069Participate in tripartite structures and develop strategies towards
\nthe promotion Tripartism within the mining industry.\uf069Manage Information
\nSystems \uf069Support and develop a transformation process within the regional
\noffice.<\/p>\n

\nbe required of the person to travel and sleep over time to time. Candidates
\nwithout Mine Manager Certificate of Competency but with Mine Overseers
\nCertificate or National Diploma\/ B-Tech degree in Mining Engineering will be
\nappointed on a four year contract at salary level 10 (R314, 709).<\/p>\n
