REQUIREMENTS : Applicants must be in possession of an appropriate recognised three-year
\nNational diploma or Bachelor\u2019s (B.Sc.) degree in Agriculture or Horticulture with
\nAgronomy, Botany, Entomology, Crop Production, Plant Genetics, Plant
\nProduction, Plant Protection, Plant Pathology and\/or Microbiology as a major
\nsubject(s) (you are required to furnish a credit certificate and\/or statement of
\nresults). Appropriate knowledge of and relevant technical experience in the
\nAgricultural Pests Act, 1983 (Act 36 of 1983), the Plant Improvement Act, 1976
\n(Act 53 of 1976) and other related legislation as well as the provisions of the
\nWorld Trade Organisation Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and
\nPhytosanitary Measures (WTO-SPS), the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), the
\nConvention for Biological Diversity (CBD) including agricultural law enforcement,
\nthe regulatory environment or relevant industries. Knowledge of and experience
\nin generic administration processes and procedures. Good communication
\n(verbal and written), problem solving, interpersonal relations, conflict handling,
\nplanning and organising skills. Ability to work well independently as well as within
\na team environment. Applicants must be conversant in one (1) of the Official
\nLanguages in which the relevant legislation is written. Capability and willingness
\nto conduct inspections, inter alia; in rail trucks, on trucks, on ships, in containers,
\ncold storages, etc. Basic computer skills in MS Office software. A valid driver\u2019s
\nlicence (minimum Code B) and the ability to drive as well as the willingness to
\ntravel away from home\/office at short notice, work irregular hours (shifts) and
\nwork overtime.<\/p>\n
DUTIES : The incumbent will be responsible to enforce, mainly, the Agricultural Pests Act,
\n1983 and the Plant Improvement Act, 1976, related legislation and international
\nagreements to ensure that the sanitary and phytosanitary status of plants and
\nplant products comply with the relevant minimum requirements. This includes the
\nindependent planning and conducting of inspections as well as the auditing of
\nassignees respectively. Inspections include sampling, testing, surveys,
\ninvestigations, detections and audits as well as administrative tasks relating to
\nthese functions. Occasionally conduct inspections away from his\/her station as
\nwell as overnight away from his\/her station when necessary. Render service at
\nshort notice and after hours or away from his\/her station when necessary.<\/p>\n
