REQUIREMENTS : A Certificate of Competency as a Mechanical\/Electrical Engineer with extensive
\nrelevant practical experience in the mining environment, at least 5 years\u2019
\nexperience in the inspecting \/ auditing management arena, have experience in
\nfatal accident investigation and inquiries and have experience in the development
\nof Standards and Legislation. PLUS the following key competencies: Knowledge
\nof: Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and other mine health and safety
\nrelated prescripts, Knowledge of the mining environment in South Africa and
\ninternationally (both small and traditional), Knowledge of Strategy Development,
\nKnowledge of political protocol and understanding of his broader political
\nenvironment, Knowledge of health risk assessment techniques, Knowledge of
\nguidelines and instructions issued by the Chief Inspector of the Mines, Knowledge\u00a0of research process and methodologies. Specialised investigation and inquiry\u00a0techniques, Skills: Leadership Skills, Report Writing Skills, Inspection \/ Auditing,
\nProject and Programme Management Skills, Analytical Skills, Specialised
\nInvestigation Skills, Fatal Accident Audits\/Enquiries, Communication: Competent
\ncommunicator (written and verbal), Creativity: Innovative and creative abilities.<\/p>\n

DUTIES : to participate in specialist investigations and inquiries within the regions when
\nrequired. To marshal \/mobilise specialist skills when required… To provide
\nintegrated professional advice and expertise to regional offices when required.
\nIdentify key research areas and Influence key research agenda via the policy unit
\nfor research institutions. Conduct literature research, benchmark and liaise with
\nother counter parts nationally And internationally to maintain specialist
\nknowledge. Monitor accidents, analyse trends and make recommendations within
\nthe mining sector and policy unit to minimise such accidents. Provide input into
\nthe development of legislation, guidelines and instructions to the policy unit.
\nProvide mentorship and knowledge transference to Mine Health and Safety
\nInspectorate and mining sector. Quality assurance of inspectorate processes and
\noutputs (e.g. inspections, audits, investigations and inquiries). Promotion of mine
\nand health safety. Liaise with institutions, mining houses and other government
\ndepartments. Partake in technical task groups for the development of standards
\nand specifications. Provide input for the monthly, quarterly and annual reports of
\nthe technical support unit.<\/p>\n
