REQUIREMENTS : Applicants must be in possession of a recognised three-year National diploma or
\nBachelor\u2019s (B.Sc.) degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Food Technology\/Science
\nand\/or Environmental Health with Biotechnolo<\/p>\n
gy, Biochemistry, Agronomy,\u00a0Botany, Crop\/Plant Production\/Protection, Food Chemistry\/Technology and\/or
\nMicrobiology as a major subject(s) (you are required to furnish a credit statement
\nand\/or statement of results).<\/p>\n
Relevant technical knowledge of and experience in\u00a0agricultural law enforcement, the regulatory environment, quality assurance and
\ncontrol, food safety, agriculture, liquor or processed products and the relevant
\nfood industry. Knowledge of relevant legislation, international standards and
\nagreements, e.g. the World Trade Organisation Agreement on the Application of
\nSanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (WTO-SPS), the Technical Barrier to
\nTrade (TBT) and CODEX Allimentarius will serve as an advantage.<\/p>\n
Good\u00a0communication (verbal and written), problem solving, interpersonal relations,
\nconflict handling, planning and organising skills. Ability to work well
\nindependently as well as within a team environment. Applicants must be
\nconversant in one of the official languages in which the relevant legislation is
\nwritten.<\/p>\n
Capability and willingness to conduct inspections, inter alia, in rail trucks,
\non trucks, on ships, in containers, cold storages, etc. Computer skills in MS
\nOffice software. A valid driver\u2019s licence (minimum Code B) and the ability to
\ndrive. Applicants must be prepared to travel away from home\/office at short
\nnotice, work irregular hours (shifts) and work overtime.<\/p>\n

DUTIES : The incumbent will be responsible to enforce the Agricultural Product Standards
\nAct, 1990 (Act 119 of 1990) and the Liquor Products Act, 1989 (Act 60 of 1989)
\nas well as other related legislation and international agreements to ensure that
\nthe quality and sanitary status of agricultural and liquor products comply with the
\nrelevant minimum requirements.<\/p>\n
This includes the independent planning and
\nconducting of inspections and the auditing of assignees respectively. Inspections
\ninclude sampling, testing and evaluating labels of agricultural products and
\nmarking requirements, investigations and detection as well as administrative
\ntasks relating to these functions.<\/p>\n
Where applicable, the sale\/movement of
\nproducts will have to be prohibited and a due legal process will have to be
\nfollowed. Conduct inspections away from his\/her station\/home as well as
\novernight away when necessary (occasionally). Render service at short notice
\nand after hours at or away from his\/her station when necessary.<\/p>\n
