\nSALARY : R532 278 per annum Level 11
\nCENTRE : Mpumalanga Region, Witbank
\nREQUIREMENTS : A\/an appropriate Mine Environmental Control Certificate and a valid driver\u2019s
\nlicense coupled with relevant experience in Mine Environmental Control, PLUS
\nthe following competencies, Knowledge of: Occupational hygiene activities and
\nprocedures and basic research, Office procedures, Mine Health and Safety Act
\nand Regulations-risk management and proficiency in use, Human Resource
\nand Labour Relations Act, Skills: Report writing and formulation, Excellent
\ncommunication skills, Ability to identify real problem on accident investigation,
\nCommunication: Good communication skills, written reports and letters and
\nverbal, Creativity: Ability to analyse workload and work related problems, and
\ndraft implement a strategy to ensure an improvement. Recommendation:
\nAppointment will be subject to a pre-medical examination of fitness. A person
\nwith intermediate Chamber of Mines Certificate in ventilation will be employed on
\na four year contract Level 10 until the Advanced Chamber of Mines Certificate
\nhas been obtained.
\nDUTIES : The appointee\u2019s primary responsibility will be monitoring of compliance with the
\nprovisions of the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act No. 29 of 1996). In addition,
\nthey will – conduct inspections and audits (surface and underground). Conduct
\ninquiries and investigations into accidents and incidents or any occurrence,
\npractice or condition compromising health and safety at mines. Make inputs to
\ndevelop strategies required to monitor mines in respect of legal compliance.
\nGiving support and assistance in the promotion of health and safety in the mining
\nindustry. Play a role in the formulation of health and safety legislation, guidelines
\nand various regulatory mechanisms. Participate in the tripartism structures and
\ndevelop strategies towards the promotion of tripartism in the mining industry.
\nManage information systems, support and develop a transformation process
\nwithin the regional office. Investigate and inquire on accidents and Occupational
\nHygiene problems and ensure remedial measures are instituted.
