\nSALARY : R532 278 per annum Level 11
\nCENTRE : Mpumalanga Region, Witbank<\/p>\n
REQUIREMENTS : An appropriate Government Certificate Competency in Electrical and\/or
\nMechanical Engineering with relevant experience in the Mining Industry or the
\nperson must be a Professional Engineer (Electrical or Mechanical), PLUS the
\nfollowing competencies, Knowledge of: Mine Health and Safety Act, Extensive
\nknowledge of mine equipment used on all types of mines, surface and
\nunderground, Knowledge of winders, boilers, elevators and chairlifts, Basic
\nknowledge of Labour relations and human resources management, Skills: High
\nlevel management, Risk assessment techniques, conflict resolution, planning
\nand organising, computer literacy, Communication: Ability to communicate
\nverbally and in writing at all levels to mine officials and public on the Mine Health
\nand Safety Act as well as matters regarding types of mine equipment used in
\nmining industry, exemptions, permissions and proposed legislation, Creativity:
\nAbility to analyse and work related problems and to draft and implement a
\nstrategy to ensure an improvement. Recommendation: Appointment will be
\nsubject to a pre-medical examination of fitness. Candidates who are not the
\nholders of a Certificate of Competency but are in possession of a Tertiary
\nQualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering will be appointed on a Four
\n(4) years contract at salary level 10 (R 337,998) and will be upgraded to the
\ncorrect salary level after obtaining the required Certificate.<\/p>\n

DUTIES : The appointee\u2019s primary responsibility will be enforce adherence to the Mine
\nHealth and Safety Act, 1996 (Act No. 29 of 1996). Conduct inspections and
\naudits. Conduct inquiries and investigations into accidents and incidents. Give
\ninputs on regional action plans to develop strategies required to monitor legal
\ncompliance by mines. Give support and assistance in the promotion of health
\nand safety in the mining industry. Play a role in the formulation of health and
\nsafety legislation, guidelines and various regulatory mechanisms. Participate in
\ntripartite structures and develop strategies towards the promotion of tripartism
\nwithin the mining industry. Manage information systems. Support and develop a
\ntransformation within the regional office.
