\nDirectorate: Forestry Management (Eastern Cape)
\nSALARY : R243 747 per annum
\nCENTRE : Matiwane and Kei areas<\/p>\n
REQUIREMENTS : A National Diploma or Bachelor\u2019s degree in Forestry plus relevant work
\nexperience in the Forestry environment at supervisory level. Knowledge of the
\npolicy and legislative framework, sectoral legislation and the regulatory framework
\nof Forestry and Labour in South Africa. Knowledge of best management practices
\nfor forestry and environmental management systems. Computer literacy in MS
\nOffice software and knowledge of documenting\/recording information.<\/p>\n
DUTIES : Oversee and render commercial activities in the plantations, and implement
\noperational plans for the plantation. Quality assure the work rendered by service
\nproviders. Assist in updating annual plans of operations. Prepare for planting and
\nother sivi-cultural (planting, weeding, harvesting, etc) operations as well as
\nroutine management of the plantation. Render forestry protection activities,
\nensuring protection of plantation from fires, livestock and pests. Assist with the
\nimplementation, enforcement and promotion of the National Forest Act, 1998 (Act
\n84 of 1998) (NFA) and the National Veld and Forest Fire Act, 1998 (Act 101 of
\n1998) (NVFFA). Implement plans to prevent and combat veld and forest fires.
\nMaintain State resources (e.g fences). Implement standards and operational
\npractices. Liaise with stakeholders, and provide technical advice to stakeholders.
\nAttend to enquiries. Provide awareness campaigns (Fire, Participatory Forest
\nManagement). Render environmental protection activities, manage stream flow
\nreduction activities under the Water Act and plan and implement pest\/disease
\ncontrol initiatives. Develop rehabilitation plans for degraded sites. Ensure
\nmaintenance of conservation zones. Plan and supervise removal of alien species.
\nProvide staff management, including mentoring and coaching, and development
\nof staff. Compile job descriptions, work plans and assessment reports for
\nsubordinates. Administer revenue collection services.
