Technology moves quickly, so it&#8217;s important that we work closely with politicians, regulators, academics and third parties to help them understand the issues that affect the Internet and our users. Google and the web touch a lot of public policy debates, so we&#8217;re looking for quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious people to join our team.<\/p>\n<p>Life at Google is rarely quiet, and never boring so to succeed here, you&#8217;ll need to combine creativity with the organizational skills to manage different campaigns and projects to tight deadlines. Ideal candidates will be inspiring advocates and enthusiastic team players, eager to help shape the future direction of Internet policy.<\/p>\n<h3>The role: Policy Manager<\/h3>\n<p>As our Manager for Public Policy and Government Relations in South Africa you will represent Google externally with government, regulators and third parties, as well as help manage our local public policy strategy and campaigns. You will work with a cross-functional team of Google employees in South Africa, as well as with a closely-coordinated global Public Policy team to advance policy positions that benefit our users and an open Internet more generally.<\/p>\n<h4>Job Responsibilities:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop and lead public policy campaigns across the full range of policy areas that impact Google and the web. Key issues include technology innovation, free expression, privacy and intellectual property.<\/li>\n<li>Engage directly with politicians and policy-makers.<\/li>\n<li>Build a network of trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups and others to support policies that will help create\/maintain a user-focused online environment as well as an open Internet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Job Requirements:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong academic record, with minimum bachelors degree or equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>Direct experience working within national politics, government, think tanks, public interest groups or the field of corporate public policy.<\/li>\n<li>Broad policy experience, preferably with direct knowledge of the tech sector or the key issues impacting the Web, like intellectual property, free expression, Internet access and online safety.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working in high-stress environments and a proven ability to exercise judgement even in a crisis.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communicator with great interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as the ability to write well and translate complex issues into simple language that people who are not experts can understand.<\/li>\n<li>Self starter with the ability to think, plan, and execute large projects.<\/li>\n<li>Team player who can work with people from a broad range of backgrounds and experience, including to lead campaigns and mentor more junior members of the team.<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in English is a prerequisite.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"Jobs in South Africa by Google South Africa, vacancies in Google by google South Africa\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/jobs\/africa\/policy-manager-johannesburg\/index.html\"><strong>Click here to view Job and Apply Online<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our job is to advocate for Google on the big public policy issues of the day.
