With this objective in mind, the institution aims at assisting African countries \u2013 individually and collectively &#8211; in their efforts to achieve sustainable economic development and social progress.<\/p>\n<p>Combating poverty is at the heart of the continent\u2019s efforts to attain sustainable economic growth. To this end, the Bank seeks to stimulate and mobilize internal and external resources to promote investments as well as provide its regional member countries with technical and financial assistance.<\/p>\n<p>The broad objectives of the program are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank<\/li>\n<li>provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the AfDB.<\/p>\n<h3>Eligibility Criteria<\/h3>\n<p>To be eligible for internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>students, aged between eighteen (18) to thirty (30) years, and currently enrolled in a master\u2019s level degree programme or its equivalent in a recognized public or private institution of higher learning. The candidate can apply for an internship within one year of having obtained such a degree.<\/li>\n<li>provide a letter from their school confirming their enrollment.<\/li>\n<li>citizens of one of the Bank\u2019s member countries<\/li>\n<li>applicants must be fluent in, at least, one of the Bank\u2019s working languages (English or French).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Application Procedure<\/h3>\n<p>Applicants are required to send their application through\u00a0this\u00a0<a title=\"APPLICATION FORM FOR AfDB INTERNSHIP PROGRAM - 2011.doc (110 KB)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.afdb.org\/fileadmin\/uploads\/afdb\/Vacancies\/APPLICATION%20FORM%20FOR%20AfDB%20INTERNSHIP%20PROGRAM%20-%202011.doc\">form<\/a> and forward it, with the endorsement of their educational institutions, to\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:internship@afdb.org\">internship@afdb.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Completed applications must reach the Bank:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>duly completed AfDB internship application form, counter-signed by the applicant&#8217;s educational institution or sponsoring agency<\/li>\n<li>current CV and cover letter<\/li>\n<li>copies of the latest certificates and transcripts or equivalent institutional records<\/li>\n<li>a recommendation letter from the academic institution they are currently attending<\/li>\n<li>a brief description of the program or the topic (thesis or dissertation) to be prepared during the internship (when applicable).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note that only complete applications will be processed.<\/p>\n<h3>Duration \/ Timing \/ Location of Internship<\/h3>\n<p>Internships will initially be for a period of three months, renewable for up to six months maximum.<\/p>\n<p>The internship program for 2011 is closed.\u00a0 The timing for the 2012 program is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Winter &#8211; Session I<\/strong>: January through March 2012. Application period from 1st July 2011 to 30th September 2011<\/li>\n<li><strong>Summer &#8211; Session II<\/strong>: June through August 2012. Application period from 1st December 2011 to 28th February 2012<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Terms and Conditions<\/h3>\n<p>Interns will be provided with a monthly stipend of 550 UA (AfDB moving average exchange rate applicable in February 2011 is 1 UA=1.52486 $ = 1.15781 Euro = 2.19509 TND).<\/p>\n<p>Interns will be responsible for their airfare to and from the location of their internship, their visa if needed and will be required to have international medical and accident insurance coverage for the duration of their internship.<\/p>\n<p>All enquiries regarding the internship program should be addressed to:<\/p>\n<h3>Human Resources Management Department<\/h3>\n<p>African Development Bank<br \/>\nP.O.
