{"id":27109,"date":"2016-04-26T10:41:14","date_gmt":"2016-04-26T08:41:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=27109"},"modified":"2016-11-11T12:40:53","modified_gmt":"2016-11-11T10:40:53","slug":"csir-oceanographic-engineering-internship-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/csir-oceanographic-engineering-internship-programme.html","title":{"rendered":"CSIR: Oceanographic Engineering Internship Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CSIR has an Internship opportunity in the Ocean Systems and Climate research group in the Natural Resource and Environment unit (NRE).<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this role is to equip new graduates with practical experience while assisting with laboratory-based electronic servicing, repair and design work as well as fieldwork, including at-sea engineering support.<\/p>\n<p>This position is based at the South African Marine Engineering and Robotics Centre (SAMERC) in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Technical engineering tasks associated with the field of marine electronics, autonomous robotics and general technologies;<\/li>\n<li>Assemble and testing of electronic systems, sub-systems, laboratory-based design and construction;<\/li>\n<li>Develop software, including : graphical user interfaces using high-level languages as well as embedded software in C;<\/li>\n<li>User interface, microcontrollers, embedded and high-end software;<\/li>\n<li>Install, constructing, commissioning, wiring interfacing of electronic equipment;<\/li>\n<li>Finding faults, repairing, testing and servicing of analogue and digital electronic equipment;<\/li>\n<li>Develop custom-designed engineering solutions;<\/li>\n<li>Provide technical support to engineers and technicians;<\/li>\n<li>Report on technical and administrative documentation;<\/li>\n<li>Procuring components and general administrative tasks;<\/li>\n<li>Service and piloting of existing robotics platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications, skills and experience:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A National Diploma in electrical engineering (Light Current) or a three-year bachelor\u2019s degree in electrical engineering,<\/li>\n<li>Must have an interest in general technologies (mechanical design, 3D rendering);<\/li>\n<li>Hands-on practical approach to technical construction (application of theoretical knowledge);<\/li>\n<li>Willing and able to work for extended periods on research vessels at sea (Antarctica, local and international waters) SS-F-HR-363 REV 03 CSIR Page 2 of 2<\/li>\n<li>An awareness and interest in the environment and ocean technologies will be an added advantage;<\/li>\n<li>Good people skills, communication skills, organisational skills and ability to work under pressure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Should you meet the above requirements, please email your CV to jobapplications@csir.co.za with your name and surname, position title and reference number on the subject line, (e.g. John Smith: Internship: Oceanographic Engineering Reference No: 306741).<\/p>\n<p>Closing date: 08 May 2016<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CSIR has an Internship opportunity in the Ocean Systems and Climate research group in the Natural Resource and Environment unit (NRE).
