{"id":27358,"date":"2016-05-16T14:39:23","date_gmt":"2016-05-16T12:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=27358"},"modified":"2016-05-16T14:42:47","modified_gmt":"2016-05-16T12:42:47","slug":"ethekwini-maritime-cluster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/ethekwini-maritime-cluster.html","title":{"rendered":"EMC: Maritime Economist Traineeship Programme 2016 \/ 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The eThekwini Maritime Cluster (EMC)<\/strong> is a non-profit company that was launched in 2009. we provide a platform for collaborative engagement between different levels of government, state owned enterprises and the maritime community to implement programs of common interest that support the growth and improve performance and competitiveness of the maritime industry.<\/p>\n<p>As part of its Training and Skills Development Programme<strong> EMC <\/strong>\u00a0has identified a need to develop and train Maritime Economists as we have identified a gap in terms of this niche area of study in the sector. Maritime Economists will fulfil the following role in the industry:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Economic and financial evaluation of port<\/li>\n<li>Analyze the economic factors involved in maritime-related products distribution<\/li>\n<li>examine the techniques of finance and recommend improvements<\/li>\n<li>Outline organizational structures of maritime-related business concerns<\/li>\n<li>Shipping and mining projects<\/li>\n<li>They may also have to study government regulations and requirements in maritime business.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Skills<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The skills listed below are representatives of those acquired from study of economics, and may be applied in various occupations e.g. maritime economists.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Writing reports \/ articles \/ proposals<\/li>\n<li>Projecting \/ forecasting results<\/li>\n<li>Applying quantitative analysis<\/li>\n<li>Generating solutions<\/li>\n<li>Evaluating policies<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining accurate records<\/li>\n<li>Performing costs \/ benefit analyses<\/li>\n<li>Analyzing results<\/li>\n<li>Testing and idea \/ hypotheses<\/li>\n<li>Applying statistical method<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Opportunities<\/h3>\n<p>Economists who pursue a job as a maritime economists will be on of an elite group. There is a relatively few positions in this field, however a lot of companies in the Maritime Industry would require an economists with a marine background.<\/p>\n<h3>Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>A Bachelor of Commerce Degree \u2013 Economics.
