\nDesign and Optimisation of the Transmission Systems within the Core, IP and Access networks in line with the business requirements of MTN SA in order to provide the end customer with reliable and international quality communications and service. Plan the Transmission Systems according to Radio, Core and IP requirements . Manage the Self Provisioning initiative and existing 3rd Party business relationships<\/p>\n
\nStrategy Development
\n\u2022 Contribute to the definition of the transmission network strategy and architecture clearly describing the future vision for transmission and identifying key decision points to enable this vision to be achieved
\n\u2022 Participate in the translation of the transmission strategy and architecture into long range plans
\n\u2022 Assist in formulating inputs towards technology strategy.
\n\u2022 Assist in delivering a target Product and Services architecture with a 3 year time horizon taking global technology developments into consideration<\/p>\n
\n\u2022 Responsible for the timely planning of all Transmission networks within MTN e.g. PTP \/ PMP microwave networks, Fibre networks, RANO networks, DXX \/ SDH networks, etc.
\n\u2022 Assist in defining 1-year budget
\n\u2022 Manage design guidelines for regional transmission resources
\n\u2022 Ensure translation of high level plan to low level design
\n\u2022 Prioritise access\/core transmission network growth
\n\u2022 Drive execution of near term plans
\n\u2022 Forecast capacity and traffic and align with Radio, Core & IP plans and with strategy and roadmap
\n\u2022 Ensure correct planning of Transmission w.r.t fixed and mobile operator interconnections where required
\n\u2022 Plan transport capacity across access, backhaul and backbone infrastructure to support all of MTN\u2019s bandwidth requirements
\n\u2022 Evaluate new Access and Core Backbone Transmission Network Equipment and Specifications
\n\u2022 Identify geographical location for equipment to be installed
\n\u2022 Request funding and issue request for purchasing (RfP) to vendor, verify bill of material and confirm order of equipment and services
\n\u2022 Verify configuration
\n\u2022 Ensure implementation of Transmission plans is carried out fully with a smooth handover to Network Operations for cutover and integration into the live network
\n\u2022 Ensure that policies, procedures and quality standards are adhered to in the planning process<\/p>\n
\n\u2022 Ensure quality objectives are met and maintained
\n\u2022 Ensure future proof transmission plans to guarantee deliverables are met according to customer requirements both internal and external
\n\u2022 Track and report on performance problems and performance improvements on division level
\n\u2022 Investigate performance issues and identify changes required on division level
\n\u2022 Review design and drive optimisation changes
\n\u2022 Tender evaluations and formulations
\n\u2022 Provide high level support on the planned network\/technologies<\/p>\n
\n\u2022 Ensure communication of plans and integration of feedback
\n\u2022 Prepare implementation and integration documentation
\n\u2022 Co-operate with and support of other network group departments at all levels
\n\u2022 Manage and interface with other areas of the MTN business outside of the transmission department as required for successful planning and implementation (e.g. with Suppliers, 3rd Parties, local Transmission Engineers and Business & Logistics department to ensure that contracts from a technical perspective are negotiated in the best interest of MTN)
\n\u2022 Interface with regulator
\n\u2022 Provide high level planning support function and representation (technical) for Transmission planning departments in MTN Group Operations
\nFinancial Management

\nEducation:
\n\u00b7 Minimum of 3 year Technical degree\/diploma
\n\u00b7 Fluent in English<\/p>\n
\n\u00b7 More than 5 years\u2019 in Telecommunications, with at least 5 years experience as a Transmission Planning specialist. Excellent understanding of transmission project rollouts and good knowledge of the latest technologies (IP\/MPLS networks, ATM and IP protocols and Gbit Ethernet, MAN and NGN); with experience in supervising\/managing others
\n\u00b7 Experience working in a medium to large organization<\/p>\n
\nTransmission courses relating to Transmission MW, DXX, SDH, GSM, Fibre etc
\nManagement\/Supervisory Training<\/p>\n
