The National Cadet Project is a South African<\/span> Government funded initiative.\u00a0The aim of the project is to build human capital, particularly seafarers, to support the maritime sector, by providing bursaries, financial support, training berths and creating job opportunities for South African youth within the maritime sector.<\/p>\n

TheSouth African Maritime Training Academy<\/span> (SAMTRA) has been contracted to manage the \u2018SA National Cadet Training Project\u2019 and the SA Agulhas dedicated training vessel on behalf of the South African Government. We are responsible for all recruitment<\/span> and related marine training activities.
\nSAMTRA is a maritime training academy situated in Simons Town, South Africa, which focuses predominantly on the provision of simulator based training, cadet training and other maritime related skills development programs.<\/p>\n

Requirements<\/strong>
\nMaritime Studies and Mechanical\/Marine Engineering graduates are recruited and then put through a rigorous 2 to 3 year<\/span> training\/bridging programme in order to ultimately qualify as Deck or Engineer Officer of the Watch<\/span>. Graduates from the programme are duly certified by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and are then able to serve as Officers onboard the local and international shipping fleets of the world.<\/p>\n
