for Human Rights Internship Opportunity for 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Foundation for Human Rights (FHR) is a grant making institution supporting civil society organisations in South Africa and the region that implement <span id=\"IL_AD8\" class=\"IL_AD\">programmes<\/span>which promote and protect human rights.<\/p>\n<p>FHR are currently implementing a programme in partnership with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development called Socio-Economic Justice for All (SEJA) which aims at increased awareness, respect, protection and fulfillment of human rights and socio-economic rights for all people.<\/p>\n<p>The programme prioritizes vulnerable and marginalised groups.<\/p>\n<p>The FHR seeks to appoint appropriately qualified individuals for its <span id=\"IL_AD9\" class=\"IL_AD\">internship<\/span>programme, based in Parktown, Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"IL_AD7\" class=\"IL_AD\">Duration<\/span>: 12 months (1 March 2017 \u2013 28 February 2018).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Internship Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Encourage those interested and committed to working in strengthening human rights-based approaches to building civil society;<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to addressing the problems relating to skills shortage, by increasing the skills level of those entering the labour market;<\/li>\n<li>Improve the chances of employment in the chosen field by enhancing the capacity of the interns, while at the same time and in return, getting some value for the FHR;<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the job-readiness of interns by exposing them to a practical working experience\/environment;<\/li>\n<li>Inculcate human rights values in interns and strive to ensure that such values become part of their work ethic;<\/li>\n<li>Enhance the capacity of the FHR with an increased number of staff <span id=\"IL_AD10\" class=\"IL_AD\">available<\/span> to take on a range of administrative and programmatic functions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Generic objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate actively in assigned programme work, ensuring that systems, processes and outputs are grounded in FHR values;<\/li>\n<li>Participate in internal communication and teamwork;<\/li>\n<li>Work within the programme team to ensure the effective implementation of organisation\u2019s objectives;<\/li>\n<li>As and when required within reason, work beyond the scope of any job description.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working knowledge of and commitment to Human Rights, especially in a South African context;<\/li>\n<li>A <span id=\"IL_AD1\" class=\"IL_AD\">postgraduate<\/span> degree in social sciences such as: Development Studies, Economics, <span id=\"IL_AD5\" class=\"IL_AD\">Political Science<\/span>, History, Public Policy, <span id=\"IL_AD6\" class=\"IL_AD\">Social Science<\/span>, International Relations, Law and Sociology;<\/li>\n<li>Excellent verbal and written communications skills;<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to take initiative and responsibility for <span id=\"IL_AD4\" class=\"IL_AD\">areas<\/span> of work;<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in English;<\/li>\n<li>Additional language skills and project work experience are a plus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary
