{"id":35548,"date":"2017-03-06T11:45:26","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T09:45:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=35548"},"modified":"2017-03-06T11:45:26","modified_gmt":"2017-03-06T09:45:26","slug":"doctoral-studentship-environmental-health-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/doctoral-studentship-environmental-health-2.html","title":{"rendered":"Doctoral Studentship: Environmental Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CSIR has an opportunity for a Doctoral Studentship: Environmental Health in the Climate Studies, Modelling and Environmental Health (CSM&amp;EH) Research Group within the Natural Resources and the Environmental (NRE) Unit.<\/p>\n<p>The incumbent will help understand the associations between air pollution levels and human health in a community of the Limpopo province, to assess and quantify the potential health impacts or risks from potential air quality offset intervention in the community and to contribute to a better understanding of the linkages between exposure to air pollution and the impacts on human health in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>This opportunity is based in Pretoria.<\/p>\n<p><u>Key responsibilities:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prepare a research proposal to be approved by both the CSIR and the university;<\/li>\n<li>Prepare a written literature overview or assessment of the current state-of-the-art around the research topic;<\/li>\n<li>Perform original research to solve the open research problem that the student identified in his\/her proposal;<\/li>\n<li>Produce sufficient quantity and quality of peer-reviewed publications around this research topic;<\/li>\n<li>Compile the Doctoral thesis and defending the work successfully;<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to extra activities that may be outside the scope of the Doctoral research as per the needs of the research group from time to time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Qualifications, skills, and experience:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Master\u2019s degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Environmental Health, Geography, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences or Statistical Sciences;<\/li>\n<li>A good understanding of air quality, and the linkages between exposure to air pollution and negative impacts on human health, will be an advantage;<\/li>\n<li>A basic understanding of epidemiology and\/or biostatistics will be an advantage<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently, as well as in a team;<\/li>\n<li>Self-motivation and ability to be stimulated by the scientific environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Should you meet the above requirements, please email your CV to <a href=\"mailto:jobapplications@csir.co.za\">jobapplications@csir.co.za<\/a> with your name and surname, position title and reference number in the subject line, (e.g. John Smith: Doctoral Studentship \u2013 Environmental Health: Reference No: (307841)<\/p>\n<p>Closing date: 31 March 2017<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW TO APPLY<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csir.co.za\/vacancies\" target=\"_new\"><u><strong>Click Here to CSIR CAREERS PAGE<\/strong><\/u><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CSIR has an opportunity for a Doctoral Studentship: Environmental Health in the Climate Studies, Modelling and Environmental Health (CSM&amp;EH) Research Group within the Natural Resources and the Environmental (NRE)&#8230;..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[2247],"tags":[2220],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.5 -
