SPII is rooted in the values of the South African constitution.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation believes that poverty undermines democracy and inhibits the development of society as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>SPII is seeks to appoint an Intern, based in SPII Offices, Newtown, Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>The Intern\u00a0will provide specific support to SPII, assisting with research and scoping of social protection policy framework in SADC, as well as contribute in <span id=\"IL_AD8\" class=\"IL_AD\">electronic communication<\/span> with SADC BIG network partners as well as the Steering Committee.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the intern will provide support for the Basic Needs Basket project through assisting the Coordinator with conducting a trend analysis on food price inflation from the data that is collected by SPII in collaboration with ACAOSA.<\/p>\n<p>This <span id=\"IL_AD2\" class=\"IL_AD\">internship<\/span> position calls for both rigorous research and a passion for issues of social and economic justice.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"IL_AD6\" class=\"IL_AD\">Start date<\/span>: Immediately<\/p>\n<p>The initial internship is for three months, which can be extended to six months through mutual agreement.<\/p>\n<p>SPII does not offer remuneration for internship <span id=\"IL_AD4\" class=\"IL_AD\">positions<\/span>, a stipend will be provided for travel costs.<br \/>\nResponsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support research work for the SADC BIG campaign. This includes scoping of network partners in SADC, updating SADC BIG contact list and social media support and the development and layout of the quarterly newsletter and policy briefs<\/li>\n<li>Conduct in-depth, independent research on policy development around social protection (i.e. basic income), as well as policy framework focusing on poverty alleviation and reducing inequality<\/li>\n<li>Develop professional research reports on project work and content for SPII publications. Provide active support for the dissemination of the reports and their <span id=\"IL_AD7\" class=\"IL_AD\">contents<\/span> to ensure optimal reach of findings and recommendations<\/li>\n<li>Assist in coordination and organising of events around the launch of reports produced<\/li>\n<li>Data analysis and presentation of findings on the Basic Needs Basket project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span id=\"IL_AD5\" class=\"IL_AD\">Requirements<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An <span id=\"IL_AD1\" class=\"IL_AD\">undergraduate<\/span> or post-graduate degree in political science, <span id=\"IL_AD3\" class=\"IL_AD\">economics<\/span> or related field<\/li>\n<li>Data analysis and experience using relevant software (i.e. Stata, SPSS, Excel)<\/li>\n<li>Experience doing policy research work is desirable<\/li>\n<li>Experience in advocacy work will be an added advantage<\/li>\n<li>Experience in report-writing and conducting independent research<\/li>\n<li>Communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and with a team<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in English and one additional South African language<\/li>\n<li>Passion for social justice and realisation of socio-economic rights<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To apply, submit\u00a0your CV with contactable references and a letter of motivation to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:fortunate@spii.org.za\"><b>fortunate@spii.org.za<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Closing date: Friday, 31 March, 2017<\/p>\n<p>Enquiries: Fortunate at 011\u00a0833 0161<br \/>\nSuccessful candidates will be notified for interview processes.<br \/>\nFor more about the Studies in Poverty and Inequality Institute, refer to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spii.org.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.spii.org.za<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Studies in Poverty and Inequality Institute (SPII) is an independent, non-profit think tank, committed to the eradication of poverty and inequality in South Africa and the sub region.
