The internship<\/span> experience is intensive, but rewarding. \nIn addition to completing their degrees, research trainees are required to participate in all aspects of the research process as they work on research projects and commit 60% of their time to HSRC project work. Among other duties, they will participate in the following research activities under supervision:<\/p>\n
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The formulation of research questions and funding proposals;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The submission of research proposals for ethical review;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Collection and analysis of data;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Write-up of research including conference presentations, research reports and manuscripts for publication; and
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assist with research administration<\/p>\n
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Have an interest in one of the priority research areas of HSD outlined above
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 South African citizen or permanent resident<\/div>\n
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Good planning and organisational skills, including working well under pressure;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sound communication skills (verbal as well as report writing);
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A sound conceptual grounding in their discipline and in research methods, including key theories;
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Good interpersonal skills
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A sound grounding in research methods, qualitative or quantitative and growing conceptual ability. In order to complement the programme, we are seeking an applicant with strong quantitative skills.<\/p>\n
