The Centre for Applied Legal Studies (CALS) is a leading human rights centre in the Wits Law School which undertakes research, strategic litigation, and public interest advocacy.<\/p>\n
CALS is looking for two candidate attorneys to join our team in January 2018 to work across the range of CALS\u2019 programmes which include Basic Services, Business and Human Rights, Environmental Justice, Gender and the Rule of Law.<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:\u00a0<\/b>
\n\u00b7 An LLB or equivalent degree (completed by January 2018)
\n\u00b7 A demonstrated interest in human rights work and social justice
\n\u00b7 A strong interest in research as a component of lawyering
\n\u00b7 Good oral and written communication skills in English
\n\u00b7 Proficiency in other South African languages will be an advantage
\n\u00b7 Proficiency in MS Office
\n
\n<\/b>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/b>
\n\u00b7 Assisting in strategic litigation cases
\n\u00b7 Research in support of advocacy and litigation activities
\n\u00b7 Conducting field research in communities
\n\u00b7 Drafting pleadings and legal opinions
\n\u00b7 Assisting in the drafting of research reports
\n\u00b7 Providing input into draft policies and legislation
\n\u00b7 Preparing documents for, and appearing in, court
\n\u00b7 Liaising with clients, counsel and partners
\n\u00b7 Representing CALS in civil society forums<\/p>\n
