SAEON, Elwandle Node, requires the services of a dynamic, self-motivated Intern.<\/p>\n
The South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON) is a research platform funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF).<\/p>\n
SAEON is mandated to establish and manage long-term environmental observatories; maintain reliable long-term environmental data sets; promote access to data for research and\/or informed decision making; and contribute to capacity building.<\/p>\n
This position is supported by the DST’s Shallow Marine and Coastal Research Infrastructure (SMCRI) programme.<\/p>\n
Marine Field Technician Internship (2 Year contract)<\/p>\n
SAEON, Elwandle Node, based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, requires the services of a dynamic, self-motivated Intern to provide technical and logistical support for the various research and long-term monitoring activities in the field, the laboratory and at its premises.<\/p>\n
Key responsibilities will include:<\/u><\/p>\n
Provide assistance with field activities (coastal and estuarine) with specific reference to the preparation and handling of equipment (such as sampling gear and scientific instruments).<\/p>\n
Pre- and post-field trip servicing of vehicles, vessels, equipment and storage of gear.<\/p>\n
Provide assistance with the collection and recording of scientific measurements that includes physical data and biological information.<\/p>\n
Provide assistance with record keeping, data capturing and data processing.<\/p>\n
Provide assistance with the sorting of biological material and the preparation of specimens for laboratory analysis.<\/p>\n
