Established at the request of senior policy-makers of the new South African Government in 1996, the organisation facilitates policy development and dialogue in pursuit of sustainable and inclusive growth in South Africa and the Southern African region. TIPS has three main focus areas: Trade and Industrial Policy, Inequality and Economic Inclusion and Sustainable Growth. Its working model integrates research and analysis, policy development, disseminating information, capacity building, technical support, and\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD3\" class=\"IL_AD\">programme<\/span>\u00a0design and management.<\/p>\n<p>TIPS has two\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD4\" class=\"IL_AD\">internship<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD6\" class=\"IL_AD\">opportunities<\/span>\u00a0available for recently or about to graduate\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD8\" class=\"IL_AD\">masters<\/span>\u00a0students.<\/p>\n<p>A competitive remuneration package is on offer.<\/p>\n<p>Start date: 2 October 2017<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the\u00a0internship\u00a0is to give young researchers the opportunity to acquire work experience, improve their research skills and enhance their understanding of the South African economy. \u00a0The\u00a0internship\u00a0is structured to give exposure to issues of industrial development, trade and the green economy as well as work on policy orientated projects.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0internship\u00a0is for six months (renewable for a further six months by mutual agreement).<\/p>\n<p>The intern will directly participate in projects carried out by TIPS.<\/p>\n<p>Internship\u00a0at Trade &amp; Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS)<\/p>\n<p>TIPS also offers the opportunity to conduct individual research, in line with the priorities of the institution. The research is on generating and analysing evidence-based options for industrial policy as the key to more inclusive economic growth.<\/p>\n<p><b>Responsibilities:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Perform economic research under the guidance of the line manager, and provide research input and data analysis<\/li>\n<li>Participate in and present research at internal discussions and workshops \/ events<\/li>\n<li>Publish research reports through the TIPS\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD1\" class=\"IL_AD\">website<\/span>, other publications, conferences, seminars, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Requirements:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A\u00a0Masters\u00a0(completed or in final stages of completing) in Economics; Development Studies, Environmental Sciences, or a related field (with Economics III)<\/li>\n<li>A passion for industrial policy, inclusive economic development and sustainable growth<\/li>\n<li>A study background on trade, industrial policy, the manufacturing sector and Sustainable growth<\/li>\n<li>Strong communication skills in writing, editing and presentation, with an excellent command of written and spoken English<\/li>\n<li>Strong computer skills, with a proven ability to manipulate data in Excel and knowledge of Stata or SPSS<\/li>\n<li>Teamwork and an ability to handle tight deadlines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Closing date: Sunday, 23 July, 2017<\/p>\n<p>To apply, submit your CV, a cover letter highlighting your interest for the position and how you match the\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD7\" class=\"IL_AD\">requirements<\/span>\u00a0as well as a writing sample via e-mail to Edmore at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:Edmore@tips.org.za\"><b>Edmore@tips.org.za<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Only\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD2\" class=\"IL_AD\">applications<\/span>\u00a0with all of the components will be considered.<\/p>\n<p>Correspondence will be limited to short-listed\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD5\" class=\"IL_AD\">applicants<\/span>\u00a0only.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trade &amp; Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS) is a not-for-profit, research organisation based in Pretoria, South Africa.
