{"id":38003,"date":"2017-10-30T15:56:45","date_gmt":"2017-10-30T13:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=38003"},"modified":"2017-10-30T15:56:45","modified_gmt":"2017-10-30T13:56:45","slug":"facebook-fellowship-program-emerging-scholar-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/facebook-fellowship-program-emerging-scholar-award.html","title":{"rendered":"Facebook Fellowship Program and Emerging Scholar Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>he Facebook Fellowship Program and Emerging Scholar Award are open to full-time PhD students (domestic and international) enrolled during the current academic year and studying computer science, computer engineering or a related area.<br \/>\n<strong>Facebook Fellowship Program and Emerging Scholar Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Winners of the fellowship are entitled to receive two years of tuition and fees paid, an annual stipend, and conference travel support. Applications will be evaluated based on the strength of the student&#8217;s research statement, publication record, and recommendation letters.<\/p>\n<p>Students who are in their first or second year of study and are members of a minority group that is underrepresented in the technology sector, may elect to be evaluated for an Emerging Scholar Award.<br \/>\n<strong>Each Fellow will receive:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuition and fees will be paid for the academic year (up to two years)<\/li>\n<li>$37K grant (one-time payment during each academic year)<\/li>\n<li>Up to $5,000 in conference travel support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Applications are open to PhD students researching in:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CommAI<\/li>\n<li>Computational Social Science<\/li>\n<li>Compute Storage and Efficiency<\/li>\n<li>Computer Vision<\/li>\n<li>Distributed Systems<\/li>\n<li>Economics and Computation<\/li>\n<li>Machine Learning<\/li>\n<li>Natural Language Processing<\/li>\n<li>Networking and Connectivity<\/li>\n<li>Security\/Privacy<\/li>\n<li>Research Outside of the Above: relevant work in areas that may not align with the research priorities highlighted above<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information on Facebook&#8217;s topical areas of research\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.fb.com\/programs\/fellowship\/#Research_Areas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CLICK HERE.<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Required application materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research Summary 1-2 page research summary which clearly identifies the area of focus, importance to the field, and applicability to Facebook of the anticipated research. Please reference the research areas<\/li>\n<li>Resume or CV (with email, phone and mailing address).
