{"id":38948,"date":"2018-01-25T10:30:58","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T08:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=38948"},"modified":"2018-01-25T12:43:26","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T10:43:26","slug":"southsouthnorth-ssn-seeks-interns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/southsouthnorth-ssn-seeks-interns.html","title":{"rendered":"SouthSouthNorth (SSN) Seeks an Intern"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you have what it takes?\u00a0SouthSouthNorth (SSN) is looking for self-motivated and enthusiastic operations and finance intern to join their team.<\/p>\n<p>SSN promotes sustainable development while addressing climate change.<\/p>\n<p>The ideal candidate will have a background in commerce, business science, financial management, accounting or economics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Title:<\/strong>\u00a0Operations and Finance Intern<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Cape Town, South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remuneration:<\/strong>\u00a0R8 500 \/m<\/p>\n<p>SouthSouthNorth (SSN) is a non-profit company working on projects that promote sustainable development and address climate change.<\/p>\n<p>SouthSouthNorth has an internship programme which looks to source self-motivated, enthusiastic talent.<\/p>\n<p>This internship intake focuses on personnel with financial and operational support to project managers.<\/p>\n<p>This internship also offers a uniquely broad perspective into the workings of SSN, and applicants can expect to encounter a diverse and engaging range of tasks including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operational and financial project management, research development, knowledge management, and logistic support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The internship programme is designed to allow interns the opportunity to engage with a number of support functions within our office and quickly get a sense of the variety of projects SouthSouthNorth is implementing.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of the types of functional areas that the intern may be exposed to within the six-month period include:<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Project management and operational support:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support project managers with operational and financial management<\/li>\n<li>Basic budget forecasts and tracking of deliverables across a suite of projects<\/li>\n<li>Collate reports and feedback from multiple project partners<\/li>\n<li>Create and manipulate quantitative analysis worksheets<\/li>\n<li>Liaise with project managers and compile administrative inputs (e.g. taking meeting minutes, checking expense claims and supplier invoices, uploading deliverables to databases as requested)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Research support:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ad hoc research support to scale up existing SouthSouthNorth projects and programmes<\/li>\n<li>Ad hoc literature reviews and background research to support project managers in scoping new projects and programmes<\/li>\n<li>Support for alignment and coordination of activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>Assistance with logistics:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Ad hoc logistics support and\/or arrangements for various programmes being implemented by SouthSouthNorth (e.g. convening scientific workshops, logistics for side events at conferences, arrangements supporting online forums and webinars)<\/li>\n<li>Workshop note taking and collation of input\/feedback<\/li>\n<li>Transcribing audio and video input from workshops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>Competencies and personal qualities<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as English verbal and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Excellent computer skills with a focus on excel<\/li>\n<li>Excellent finance and project management skills<\/li>\n<li>Proactive with an inclination to take on tasks which fall outside the applicant\u2019s skill and experience set<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work in a flexible and fluid working environment<\/li>\n<li>Ability to multi-task easily and manage time efficiently<\/li>\n<li>Positive attitude and willingness to learn through doing<\/li>\n<li>Energetic and self-motivated<\/li>\n<li>Accuracy and precision<\/li>\n<li>particularly regarding quantitative analysis &#8211; Critical thinking and an ability to distill a complex problem into key elements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At least an undergraduate qualification (or equivalent experience).
