We\u2019re looking for a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed writer\/journalist with a spirit of discovery. Who will help craft articles, collate overviews, dabble in social media and lend a logistical hand around the office (note: the only coffee you\u2019ll be fetching will be your own, so don\u2019t worry about that).<\/p>\n<p>The editorial intern will contribute to all our content sections from events, to overviews and features. They will conduct research, do interviews and learn about social media.<\/p>\n<p>The intern will need to work quickly and well under pressure and will need to be gifted with words and be a go-getter.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s an opportunity to shoulder some serious responsibility here and to gain some valuable insight into the world of online publishing. Plus, there\u2019s also a chance that the\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD1\" class=\"IL_AD\">internship<\/span>\u00a0could evolve into a permanent position should you prove yourself an invaluable addition to the team.<\/p>\n<p><b>Responsibilities:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Write events<\/li>\n<li>Update \u201c7 Things to do in Cape Town this Weekend\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Fact-check and update overviews and put together new overviews<\/li>\n<li>Write feature covering all over sections<\/li>\n<li>Source\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD3\" class=\"IL_AD\">photos<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD4\" class=\"IL_AD\">videos<\/span>\u00a0and edit\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD2\" class=\"IL_AD\">pics<\/span>\u00a0using Adobe Photoshop<\/li>\n<li>Incorporate SEO best practice into the articles<\/li>\n<li>Upload content on the CMS<\/li>\n<li>Write social media posts from time to time<\/li>\n<li>Partake in monthly content planning meetings and pitch ideas for future stories<\/li>\n<li>Upload articles and\u00a0<span id=\"IL_AD7\" class=\"IL_AD\">pictures<\/span>\u00a0onto a CMS system<\/li>\n<li>Help with compiling the weekly newsletter<\/li>\n<li>Conduct interviews, research and collect accurate information for overviews and features<\/li>\n<li>Make a concerted effort to meet all deadlines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span id=\"IL_AD6\" class=\"IL_AD\">Requirements<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong writing ability with a good grasp of grammar and spelling (this will be tested)<\/li>\n<li>A degree\/diploma in Journalism\/<span id=\"IL_AD8\" class=\"IL_AD\">English<\/span>\/Media Studies (advantageous but not essential)<\/li>\n<li>Accustomed to a fast-paced environment<\/li>\n<li>A positive can-do attitude<\/li>\n<li>A hard-core work ethic and a serious interest in getting the most of this experience<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of SEO (advantageous but not essential)<\/li>\n<li>Experience using CMS (advantageous but not essential)<\/li>\n<li>Social media experience<\/li>\n<li>An aptitude to understand different processes<\/li>\n<li>A structured multi-tasker<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of Photoshop (advantageous but not essential)<\/li>\n<li>Sound research skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Advantageous<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of Hootsuite<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with Google Analytics<\/li>\n<li>Own transport and driver\u2019s license<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Personal Skills\/Attributes:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The solid worker that can handle pressure and create good content quickly.<\/li>\n<li>A person that loves to be in the know about all things in Cape Town and the Western Cape<\/li>\n<li>Positive attitude<\/li>\n<li>A key interest in SEO and online media channels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If interested, send your CV, a short letter of motivation and two writing samples to Justin Williams at\u00a0<b><a href=\"mailto:content@capetownmagazine.com\">content@capetownmagazine.com<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>Please use \u2018<span id=\"IL_AD5\" class=\"IL_AD\">Application<\/span>\u00a0for 2018 Editorial\u00a0Internship\u2019 as your email subject line.
