SAGEN cooperates with the Department of Energy which, amongst other deliverables, supports the Department of Public Works (DPW) to collate data on the energy consumption and the potential for implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in public buildings.<\/p>\n<p>The job description below is for an intern to be employed to support DPW.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The internship is from 01 March to 31 August 2018 and will focus specifically on assisting DPW to collect and collate energy consumption and potential generation data relating to 178 correctional facilities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The position will be based in Pretoria at the head office of DPW, CGO Building, Corner Bosman and Madiba Street, Pretoria.<\/p>\n<p><b>Roles and Responsibilities<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Main Outputs for internship:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The intern will be supporting the Green Building Unit in the collection and collation of energy consumption and energy generation data at a number of public facilities across the country for the purposes of developing high-level feasibility studies for the implementation of a range of green building projects.<\/li>\n<li>The DPW national portfolio includes properties such as military bases, correctional services centers, office accommodation and key national facilities.<\/li>\n<li>The primary project for this internship will be the completion of a high-level Biogas feasibility study for 178 facilities (military bases and correctional services facilities) around the country. The feasibility study will need to determine the total energy usage on site, the energy generating a potential of a biogas installation on site, and possible uses of biogas generated on site. The study will need to integrate studies completed on the condition and operation of waste-water facilities and boiler installations at each of the sites.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The intern&#8217;s task will therefore comprise but will not be limited to:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist with data collection (identifying data sources, issuing requests, following up on requests and receiving data files);<\/li>\n<li>Sorting, reviewing and capturing pertinent information from a variety of data sources. This may include utility accounts, financial reports, condition assessments, site interviews, GIS data and asset register data;<\/li>\n<li>Capturing of relevant and important data into an excel spreadsheet for the purposes of developing a high-level feasibility assessment;<\/li>\n<li>Conduct desktop research and consult with industry experts where necessary to guide the development of the feasibility assessment;<\/li>\n<li>Perform analysis on available data where required, for example, calculate energy consumption, potential energy yield, etc.;<\/li>\n<li>Support the DPW lead official in related tasks;<\/li>\n<li>Provide reports as requested;<\/li>\n<li>Participate in related meetings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Qualifications:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor degree in Engineering, Economics or Environmental Science<\/li>\n<li>Studying towards a post-graduate qualification will be an advantage but is not a requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Competencies:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellent MS-office skills (outlook, powerpoint, word, excel) with demonstrable proficiency in Excel;<\/li>\n<li>Very pro-active, independent worker<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communication skills (oral and written English)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Experience:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with data collection, collation, and analysis will be an advantage and experience with financial analysis will be advantageous.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and greenhouse gas emissions will be advantageous<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Suitable candidates should apply by submitting a detailed CV and motivation letter outlining their motivation and qualification to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:recruit-pretoria@giz.de\"><b>recruit-pretoria@giz.de<\/b><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The South African \u2013 German Energy Programme (SAGEN) employs interns to expose young South African graduates to the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency in order for them to&#8230;..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[326],"tags":[],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.5 -
